they position the tail lights further out so they are visible at the required angles with the larger spare. Is this a cosmetic thing? What's the purpose/benefit of an extension on the tail lights?

Did you ever get confirmation of this?According to Mopar the bezels/extenders are not an available end item, You would need to purchase the lamp assemblies. I called them up on this months ago and do not see any changes in the parts data.
With that being said there "may" be a workaround here but I am not 100% certain. The part numbers for incandescent lamps with 35's are much cheaper than the LED options. Perhaps the bezels from these can be swapped over

Not of swapping them but we know for sure the extensions only come with the lamps.Did you ever get confirmation of this?
After some investigating and confirmation from someone with who owns XR non-LED lights, I believe that the non-LED extensions will NOT fit LED lights. Seems to be missing the XR LED closeout panel. Notice how different these two pieces are. So if you want LED extensions, you have to buy the whole expensive led tail lamp assembly. Not of swapping them but we know for sure the extensions only come with the lamps.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,

Would you be willing to sell the tail light extensions off of your XR? It has the Louie and Ralf logos on it right?I thought that I’d have to get a set of stock non-XR taillights in order to replace my XR taillights. That’s not true. The extensions are actually three separate parts. You can remove them from an XR taillight, however you will need the non-XR side filler pieces. The parts were $23 shipped to me to buy new parts. Or swap with somebody wanting to add the XR extensions to a non-XR taillight.
Parts needed to remove the XR extensions are 68376509AA and 68376510AA.
I don’t know what the part numbers are for the XR extensions unfortunately.

With the Oracle flush mounts the entire OEM XR assembly can be removed and the new Oracle lights installed easily. Plenty of YouTube videos with installation instructions.Anyone? Can they just be removed and install other lights without any issues?
Only difference is the extension. Is there any reason the XR LED taillights cannot be swapped with non-XR LED taillights?
Any coding or wiring required at all?
