Yesterday while on the road, a guy in a Jeep had the exact carrier we have been talking about - "...two Jerry cans mounted "skinny side facing the rear" placed on each side of the spare tire. It took some doing on my part to follow him without appearing to be some type of "nut job", but we ended up in the same parking lot.
After explaining to him I have a Jeep on order and have been looking for the type of carrier he has, he seemed more at ease.
The carrier he has is made by "ROCKHARD". I did the "google" thing and found that Rockhard has an active website and offers a variety of products.
The carrier appears to be made solid - the cost of the product was close to $2,000.00
