While servicing my JL, the dealer somehow damaged the hood. They ultimately painted the hood because the scratches were too deep to buff out. When I went to pick it up, there are swirl marks and some micro scratches all over the place. They said it’s because their contractor washed it and said they’d fix it. They took it back, but the scratches are still there. There are also a couple more pronounced. Is it unreasonable to expect that a new paint job looks like it is new and not to have marks that they can’t even seem to get out?

Not at all unreasonable. If paint wasn't done correctly or damages again then they need to make it right.

This is not right at all. Part of the issue now is you have 2 parties playing here, the Dealer that caused the damage and then their contract Paint Repair Shop which is obviously doing things wrong.

This is one of the many reasons that while I would love to have a Mojave Hood on my Willys, I highly doubt the paint of that new hood would match the quality of the factory paint. I’ll have to admit it, this paint on this 2020 is one of the better jobs I have seen and I certainly do not want to distract from that in one bit.

That’s exactly what I said. They tried once again to buff it out, but I’m at wits end. This is getting ridiculous.

Even their tech said it didn’t look painted. Part of me really wonders whether they tried to pass off just buffing it.

I’ve been back and forth to this dealer no less than 4 times on the issue and every time it’s a half cocked job.

You nailed it. The service office is pointing to the body shop and the body shop is making excuses. It’s all in house as this is a massive dealer, but it doesn’t change the fact that they just did a horrible job.
