The math doesn’t work to support this anti EV narrative. So much renewable energy is produced these days in southern and western states
Iowa exports electricity and is among the cheapest in the country. we've got plenty here and the companies have said they are poised to handle things.

Have you seen all the stories over the last few weeks regarding these sub freezing temps all over the country, and the issues they cause EV's?
Lines at charging stations, dead EV's needing to be towed to dealers, chargers failing, pathetic range due to cold, necessity for multiple charges per day.... the stories are everywhere... a real shit show!
These issues, combined with the inferno potential shows me this experiment on the consumer is turning out to be an abysmal failure.
Gas and diesel vehicles actually catch fire more frequently. There's been studies on that. I'm talking percentages, not raw numbers, meaning comparing 1,000 ICE vehicles to 1,000 EVs - the EV percentages are lower.
The stories are everywhere because it's sensational news - gets clicks and views.
It's like the media always used to say: "The SUV jumped the curb and mowed down 6 people" - not the driver lost control, or whatever, it was the evil SUV that did it. To this day local stations make sure you know if it was a car driver who lost control and killed someone, or an SUV that lost control and killed someone - no mention of a driver, the SUV did it. That's media. They distort to get attention and make points.

Our 4xe does fine in cold weather - especially if I condition the batteries by pushing the big round button two times and let it sit on the charger for a while. It uses a bit of house current to heat the batteries.

They aren't for everyone, maybe never will be, at least in our lifetime, but the battery tech is already changing so much so fast you'll see 1,000 miles on a charge in a short time.
I can't see me having a full EV for my uses - not at this time, but for my wife, a hybrid as the 4xe is absolutely perfect and she rarely needs gas.

some states are ready - we are here. Some are not ready and for various reasons we can't discuss, may not be for a while.
My son and his family have a Porsche EV and like it. It's fine for their use - they rarely drive enough miles in a single trip for it to be a problem and FL has quite a few charging stations all around. But like he says - no more driving up to our place for a visit........he'd have to plan very carefully and it would take longer. So they fly to Iowa for visits now.

Too many view this as a religion or it's a love it or hate it thing when the truth is in the middle, and rarely what you read on web sites or in the news.

BTW - if you live in or around iowa or have been watching the news - you know we've seen a lot of sub-0 (F) temps lately, nasty snows, blizzard, just plain cold crappy weather - and yet my wife's 4xe is doing fine. I leave the level 2 charger plugged in, push the button two times without starting it, it warms the batteries, we unplug it and drive away. Still cheaper than a plain gasser for her use.
Me - I'll stick with my JT for now.

It actually does; as a Power Plant Engineer, I kind of study and follow this sort of thing.

In 2020 the United States generated about four trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Some 60 percent of that came from burning fossil fuels, mostly natural gas, in some 10,000 generators, large and small, around the country. All of that electricity will need to be replaced—and more, because demand for electricity is expected to rise, especially if we power more cars with it. Renewable energy sources like solar and wind have grown faster than expected; together with hydroelectric, they surpassed coal for the first time ever in 2019 and now produce 20 percent of U.S. electricity. In February the EIA (Energy Information Administration) projected that renewables were on track to produce more than 40% by 2050—remarkable growth, perhaps, but still well short of what’s needed to decarbonize the grid by 2035 and forestall the climate crisis.

Disclaimer: I am not anti EV, they're available to everyone, buy what you like and enjoy.

Peace bro.

"Studies" that don't control for vehicle age and/or condition claim this fire percentage nonsense. Then, pro EV articles celebrate the poorly supported finding, subtly noting the massive disclaimers. Next, well meaning individuals on forums repeat what is essentially a lie, conveniently excluding the caveats.

This frequency distortion appears particularly effective at assuaging EV owners fire concern, a misdirection from the true issue: intensity.

They can’t keep the lights on here in California now. I don’t know where all this energy is you people are talking about ?
My neighbors several times have been unable to charge their cars at night. Had to call an Uber to get to work in the morning. We’re going backwards, we’re devolving. That’s the reality of the situation in the real world. Booking hotels in other areas in the summer for A/C when they cut the power. Of course, the rich people in gated communities have their power generators going, polluting the air, telling the peasants to suck it up. No crime or power issues to worry about.

My unhumble opinion: Screw your EV. I like the way my ICE cars/Jeep sounds, smells, doing mods, changing an engine myself For start. But But But people like you are afraid of change, they used to have horses and buggies too….. Ever been to PA, OH, etc?…. Like herpes, they are still everywhere. But a EV can go 0-60 in 2.0 seconds… Why the F are you in such a hurry? That’s not even legal. Sure, it’s capable, we”re all capable of finger popping our buttholes in public too, doesn’t mean you should, definitely not legal.

30 years from now it’ll be cool to attend car shows. A bunch of grown men comparing bumper sticker mods And window tint.

As a side note, an interesting statistic I just read...
E-bikes sparked 267 fires which caused 18 deaths and 150 injuries in NYC, according to New York Fire Department (FDNY).
Hmmmm..... in my 63 years, I can't really remember a bicycle catching fire and causing deaths ?

There is a big difference between making electricity & being able to distribute it. Even getting transformers is tough. (I don’t mean the robots or weirdo’s)

Why are you so insecure in your choices that you have make childish insults about choices of others? Must admit first time on a car forum I see someone used a car being to fast as an insult, very weird

lol

San Diego here....can't even recall the last power outage. Did your neighbors also leave their fuel tanks on E frequently in the past? Do they have 300 mile round trip commutes where they need a full charge every night? Comment sounds like a bunch of BS.

Your perception on my choices suffer from Parallax.
insults? Which part? Was it the herpes comment? Get some Valtrex and get better Dude.
A car to, too, two, 2 (however you choose to spell it) fast as an insult? I said it‘s not legal. Did that hurt your feelings?
You can state your opinion, but no one else can? Sounds like a specific issue that specific people from specific States seem to have, when it comes to feelings.

I get it now, i said “butthole” oohhmmmm…. I said a Wordy-dird.
