In certain areas prone to hurricanes or blizzards, electricity can be out for weeks at a time, rendering EV's useless. Gas can be brought in easily, power restoration can take a long time. Took months in Biloxi after Katrina, I know, I was waiting for it. I was able to get gas. They have to solve that problem before I would ever consider an EV.

I'm guessing we'll add a BEV to our fleet within the next year. I don't care about climate arguments or politics, I'm a car guy and there are some really great EV's on the market right now.

If I could travel back in time, I would go back to the early days of Ford. It would be interesting to hear the discussions re: the benefits of cars versus horse drawn vehicles.

Many of the critics would highlight the weaknesses of the early, inefficient technology that was being used at the time. They would have been correct in their analysis.

Fortunatey for us, the technology has improved over the years.

Gas can be brought in easily depending on circumstances. Distribution is another problem. In ground tanks full of floodwaters from open caps, portable electricity etc. this is why I bought. 4XE, ability to use both sources Prepper golden rule 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

The more EVs on the grid, the more everyone will pay for electricity for their homes. Supply and demand. The costs to run ICE and EV will balance demand between them long term, and the net result will be everyone will pay more for electricity.

This is why I own 6 5 gallon gas cans. I use one normally for the small engines, but after the storm I stocked up. I'd make runs and fill them all for the generator. I do it now before big storms, if I don't need it after I just put it in the vehicles we have asap.

getting away from what people say about what is greener depending on what side of the aisle you are on and just talking about performance between EV vs ICE ....EV kills it and it's not even close....

Here is my personal experince with having both EV and ICE vehicles

A few months ago I took advantage of the recent price drops and picked up a 2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance from Tesla's used inventory on there website....A low mile four door sedan that does 0-60 in 3.2 sec for $40K? Sign me up!!! Not spending $90 a week on gas is just a side bonus compared to the "holy sh!t" feeling you get from INSTANT speed..... When I got it I couldnt stop driving it for obvious reasons...so when I finally took out my Porsche 718 out of the garage about two weeks later, I swear to god, I thought there was something wrong with it....The M3P has ruined my perception of what a car is supposed to do when you hit the accelerator ? I still love my ICE cars, but I'm now not affraid to admit that EV are just better in just about every aspect except exhaust noise obviously...

I know EV's are not popular in some quarters of the auto enthusiest world, but I will defintely be on the waiting list when ever they announce the Magneto is available to order....and ditching my 15 mpg JLUR for one :bandit:
I’m curious, have you run into any mechanical issues that you needed to take it in for service? I was told that it’s a 3-4month wait on service for Teslas. I’d like to get an EV eventually and have both an ICE and Ev. Ultimately I’m concerned the infrastructure to support EV’s is far from ready so it seems like more of an inconvenience than benefit to own at this point.

The math doesn’t work to support this anti EV narrative. So much renewable energy is produced these days in southern and western states

Care to elaborate? One EV-heavy, ideal renewable climate western state has to import A LOT of energy (and occasionally still doesn't have enough).

And then there's the current (repeat) "unseasonably low wind" and "solar ramp up" in the south:

Have you seen all the stories over the last few weeks regarding these sub freezing temps all over the country, and the issues they cause EV's?
Lines at charging stations, dead EV's needing to be towed to dealers, chargers failing, pathetic range due to cold, necessity for multiple charges per day.... the stories are everywhere... a real shit show!
These issues, combined with the inferno potential shows me this experiment on the consumer is turning out to be an abysmal failure.

Much of the debate around renewable energy, the role of EVs, ICE vs EV, and climate is cultural and only very occasionally rational. First come our positions and then later we trot out evidence, or assertions of evidence, wrapped around those positions. That's how our brains work.

It takes too much cognitive effort for many of us to go full-tilt on system two thinking. Takes even more effort to interrogate our deeply held beliefs.

it's almost like you're reading a narrative and buying it.....

Yo Stallantis let's kick it
MY EV grabs a hold of me tightly
Electricity flows daily and nightly $$
Will it ever stop? Yes! When it's cold!
To the extreme I rock an EV like a pro, double up the charge and it'll go
Rev up the EV I gotta roll, damn it, too cold out, it's in slow Mo.
If there's a problem, Yo I'll solve it, a heated garage, should resolve it!

Ice, Ice, Baby

It really depends on how someone uses an EV, if you will be blowing through the range on a regular basis, probably EV isn't the best bet, if you are doing 40 miles or so a day, you can charge it up with a regular 120v wall outlet. Depending on a super charger regularly to charge your EV, then your best bet is not an EV.

EVs are nice if it suits your needs, great city car, a ng hauler maybe not.
