I think sometime soon, ESS will go the way of the seatbelt interlock. I just don't see how it saves the earth. Generally, I disable ESS, but it got to the point where I didn't have to because it never worked. The IPC display would always read "ESS not available battery charging". The thing is, I don't like ESS and I don't want it. But my OCD tells me if the feature is there, it has to work properly. I can't stand having anything on my Jeep does not work properly. Maybe there is a medication that can help?

Prior to repacing the aux battery for the 4th time, I tested all of the Z pack fuses (including #3), the ESS relay, fuse F42, replace the IBS, tested alternator output, and charged both batteries.

Since my ESS stopped working again, I removed the aux battery and tested with my MidTronics battery tester. The battery failed. The 200 CCA aux battery tested at 78 CCA. This failed aux battery was my 3rd aux battery. I do not know why the aux batteries keep failing. The main battery is a new Odessey AGM and it tested well over its CCA rating.

I installed a new aux AGM battery (200 CCA). Before installing the new battery, it tested well over the 200 CCA rating. I was disappointed that ESS did not start woking right away, even after 90 miles on the highway. But then I read an excellent post by @Rhinebeck01 that explained about reseting the IBS. The next morning, ESS was working again.

A normal person would just disable ESS, but my wife has confirmed I am not "normal".

You've been on this forum for nearly 5 years, have you not understood what the aux battery negative/F42 disconnect and the ESS-off dash button actually do? If not, read at least some of this thread. If you already are familiar with this information on how to make your Jeep electrically reliable, but haven't done so, I would expand on your wife's opinion and suggest you seek help--and I don't mean from a Jeep specialist.

Agreeing with the poster above me. The amount of information regarding the stop/start system, its significant flaws, and ways to disable/bypass it are well documented at this point.

Delete that shit and never look back.

To satisfy your OCD, you can take the positive of the aux leads and attach it to your primary battery. Wrap the negative lead in electrical tape and duct tape it to the inside of the aux battery box or completely remove it from the system (the other side connects to your primary negative terminal). That's all. No fuse pulling, no jumping, no errors, no anything. Your Jeep will now just use the primary battery for everything. I would still turn off ESS via button/tazer/hood pin.

When I first got the Jeep at 36K the ESS was not working. I had both batteries replaced. I kept getting messages like the wheel was turned or cabin temperature was affecting it. Now I just turn it off. It's become part of my startup routine. Its never worked.
