I only have one battery which I replaced three months ago. With the old battery I was getting this message. I replaced the battery and everything was working fine, but about two weeks ago I started to get this message again. Any ideas why? Thanks in advance!

I think if you have the e torque system you have a larger battery system in the wall of the cabin near the back or since it 2019 model it may be underneath near the back of the jeep....you should have that system checked.

ESS disabled battery charging.
Are you driving short commutes or long commutes daily? The Etorque battery gets recharged by regenerative braking. If it comes down to it. If I’m correct. You may want to plan a 2 hour road trip with dozens of slowdowns and stops and then straight shots above 55 for long periods to see if the issue doesn’t resolve itself.

@Rhinebeck01 may be able to shed more knowledge on the matter.

Thanks for the advise. I don't think that is it since I have taken a fairly long trip in the mountains where I have had to break quite a bit.

I just had the new battery checked. It was fine, but my alternator did not pass the test! Voltage gauge reads between 13.9 and 14 volts. Any known issues with the alternators on 2019 2.0 etorque? Should I go ahead and replace the alternator? Any idea on cost? How hard would it be to do myself? Thanks so much!

After reading some threads on the IBS I decided to reset the sensor by disconnect the battery. The ESS is now working. Battery voltage is showing at 14.2. I’ll update the post if this doesn’t turnout to be a permanent solution!

Glad you got it sorted. BTW that message has nothing to do with the eTorque battery, only the 12 volt starting battery as you discovered.

Turns out resetting the IBS was only a temporary solution. I am back where I started.
