I have the 3.6, manual transmission, fuses pushed in. Jeep is a year old, 12,000 miles. Getting the ESS warning light, service needed. It clears itself upon restarting. I have been reading about that here and I tested it without the doors and it would still come on. I've hit the disable button before the warning light would have a chance to appear, and it still comes on. I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow morning and I'll post results here with what they say the problem was.

Its pretty frequent now, probably comes on every time I drive it. Should have had it looked at earlier but with the manual transmission I don't ever use it. The temperature (northern IL) has taken a dive into the single digits, and the past couple of days, the Jeep hasn't been starting right up. If its a battery issue, it seems related, but I have good voltage according to the dash info. Last winter with even more severe temps (-27 was the lowest) I had no trouble starting or with anything else.

So that's my symptoms, hopefully they can figure it out and take care of it tomorrow, but I'll let you know what happens.
If you have any thoughts on what it might be based on this, I'd love to hear it and have some better ideas if they say they can't see anything wrong or whatever.

I have a Turbo but had the ESS light popping up frequently. Brought it to a dealer and there was a software update that fixed it. Itā€™s been over a month and no issues since

My guess would be that at least one of the batteries is weak, and if true, is already dragging the other down with it. The volt meter on the dash, or even a handheld multimeter, wouldn't reflect a weakened battery. A true load test of the battery disconnected from the vehicle is required. And if it does turn out to be a battery issue, insist that they replace both of them. If only the weak one is changed, there's a good chance of a reoccurring issue.

Itā€™s not done yet, but that seems to be the path they are going down. Heā€™s mentioned the possibility of replacing them both, but he needs proof/codes for the warranty. I donā€™t expect any problems with them trying to cheap out on the repair, seems like heā€™s trying to warranty everything they can. They even fixed a small plastic piece that I sorta maybe broke it myself on warranty, no questions asked. Iā€™ll update the whole story when I get it back.

Hi David,
Please keep us updated on your dealer visit. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to send our team a PM. We would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist to assist.

So I have my Jeep back with two new batteries. Their first attempt they said the batteries were in a discharged state so they charged them up and said everything looked fine. They said I probably didn't drive it enough allowing the batteries to not fully charge. I thought that didn't sound right but because most days my "commute" is a 4 mile round trip to the train station, I thought maybe it could be plausible. So I live about 20 miles from the dealer and at about mile 19 on the way home, the light comes back on. I call them up, took it back in and got a loaner car. They had it since Thursday & i got it back tonight. Paperwork just says the Aux battery was bad/replaced & had a parasitic draw. Because it was after service hours when I got it I don't know what the parasitic draw was and what they did about that. So I'll call them tomorrow and ask about that.

I ended up posting about this in another thread, but I'll update this one too.

So the above battery replacement didn't fix it as the Service Warning light reappeared the day after the new Aux battery. Also they didn't replace the main battery after all, but I did get a new Aux battery. Went back and they 'recalibrated' some clutch sensor, said that would do it and sent me on my way. This didn't work either as the light came back on after only 25 minute drive home. So I go back again and they kept it from Friday through today, the next Thursday, Said they opened a star case, talked to FCA techs, tested a bunch of things and replaced a clutch pedal interlock switch.
I let them do extra test driving, adn I picked it up tonight and its good so far. Seems fixed.
