ESS FAILURE

Have 2021 Wrangler Rubicon manual transmission with ESS that doesn't work. Did work originally. Still in warranty and repair attempted by dealer 5 times without success. Broken ESS means bad mileage. 2024 Rubicon and Rubicon X have "cold air intake" which is new feature. Bigger problem is no 2024 Wrangler Rubicon with manual in existence anywhere in U. S. for me to test drive.
Car came with 650 amp battery and 220 amp alternator. Auxiliary is 12V. Dealer refused to sell me and install HD tow package which has 700 battery and 240 amp.
Any suggestion as to how I can come out of this headache getting best possible mileage on my car OR a new 2dr. Wrangler Rubicon with manual transmission with all working parts? Dealer will accommodate. Thanks.

We're gonna need more info on why the ESS isn't working. If you scroll to the ESS page in the EVIC it should tell you why...something along the lines of "not ready, battery charging"

The MPG benefit of ESS is negligible.

I see zero increase in MPG when I use my ESS. I also see zero increase in MPG with my cold air intake...but the noise a CAI makes sounds cool. Are you getting a ESS warning light on your dash?

I keep it on STOP/START page all of the time. Says "Not Ready Cabin Cooling or Heating" 100% of the time. Last repair completed July 7. ESS died again July 18. Yes, 90° last 3 months in New Orleans but problem started Ocrober 2022. I am fearful of dealer ordering 2024 Wrangler Rubicon with manual since don't see/drive car in advance.

I'd be surprised if ESS contributed to 1mpg difference, if that, under normal driving conditions.

I disabled ESS because I don't like it and didn't want it.

Maybe you are right about MPG. Perhaps I am comparing to my 2016 Wrangler Rubicon. It had no power package--crank windows, etc. Always got minimum 17.5 MPG even under worst circumastances.

If your current Jeep is running stock tires and stock lift, you should be getting at least around 20 mpg.

I am not. I have well cared for original tires and original lift. With broken ESS I cannot get above 16 MPG overall.

Thanks. Dealer worked on this problem 5 times. I will check ac system but I like to think dealer did. Dealer did figure out battery charg issue: both batteries together have to charge to certain overall charge level. With 90-100° weather in New Orleans, I run ac full out for a while then guess when to turn it down as cabin cooling signal never goes off. So ac is Catch 22: Must run full blast to get to level ESS required. It hasn't gotten there since July 18 and then only for about 5

So you think you're about 1 MPG less than running with working ESS?

Main question: Will I do any better if dealer special orders 2024 Wrangler Rubicon with manual? 2024 comes.with cold air intake.

From what I have experienced, the ESS (broken or working) does not give a noticeable change in MPG. If anything it wears out your starter 5 times faster when it is working. If you are only getting 16 MPG I would think that the root cause is something else (low tire pressure, brake calipers that are not fully disengaging, etc.).

Try turning off AC and fan, and if that makes a difference. ESS won’t work when AC is running more than just a little.

Never works with AC full blasting all day. Probably working as intended.

Or your batteries are bad. Or something

ESS is not worth the starter wear as far as I am concerned.
