ESS battery replacement.. Wait.. What?

So I have a problem where my ESS doesn't work, took the car into the dealer and they found that the battery was not taking charge.
The importer of Jeep to Norway, do not want to let this be replaced under warranty, which is found insane.

The dealership quoted me $750 for replacing just the ESS battery.. Likewhat? The price of the battery itself supposedly is $670.

What to do now? Can I get any battery? What are the specifications for this battery?
And oh, I have the 2.2D.

eliminating that worthless piece of battery would be your best solution.
Thanks for the reply! It's only for ESS?
How would one go about eliminating it, and would it affect the warranty?

I'm assuming the 2.2D's ESS wiring is similar to that of the 3.6L gasoline engine.

If this wrong someone will chime in.

That said, this video, which I looked over first, seems an accurate explanation of what to do. Ignore the "changing the battery" part.



I encourage you disable the Autostop system by pressing the button to turn it off each time you start up, or by acquiring aftermarket tech to do so (ask if you need links to products that do this or search this forum.) If you don't you' run vehicle appliances during an ESS event from the main battery and could--although unlikely--rob it of starting power. (Many other model/brand vehicles run ESS off one battery, but few vehicles are as likely to have aftermarket current drawing appliances like a Wrangler with (most JL models) its two batteries.)

As for voiding your warranty, this change can easily be reversed. It strikes me as insane to pay the fees you've been quoted to maintain a system you simply don't need and can easily restore should you need to put the vehicle back to factory wiring.

I am not sure what the 2.2D is? At that price I am wondering if you have the 48V system? If you do have the small AUX battery it is easy to remove and run without. I have had no issues and it has been over a year. Taken long trips been off-roading. No issues.

Thanks for the reply! The 2.2D is a 2.2 Diesel engine delivered to markets outside USA. Quite a capable engine tbh. But yeah, if this warranty-thing doesn't sort itself out I'll definitely disconnect it.

If you want to keep the AUX battery system you should be able to buy an aftermarket AUX battery for much less money. I bought both batteries in America for about $450 USD last year. This was for the 3.6 gasser. (Petrol)

At least in America, the MOPAR warranty will cover a battery in the first 12,000 miles. Beyond that it would be dealer decision.

Let me tell you what happened when my 2 year old AUX battery went bad
2018 Rubicon 3.6
Went to start it one morning and when I pushed the start button the dash and radio went completely black
Tried three time and on the third try it fried my 8.4 radio ( non repairable )
$750 for a used radio
Bypassed the AUX battery new main battery and haven't had any issues at all
Leaving the AUX battery in the system could cost you more then just a battery

The ESS battery is a reference Mopar 56029759AB and model YTX14-BS and exists under the brands Yuasa, Varta, Exide etc. etc. do a search with this reference. The price here in France varies between 45 and 75 euros for the most premium . Features 12V 12AH. Dimensions approximately 150x87x146. Your garage has a price of 750 dollars??? he's a thief!!!

I wonder which galaxy brain at Jeep thought it was a good idea to run two different sized batteries on the same electrical system.

And now I see that, this year, they’ve once again eliminated eTorque, which was a far superior system. Stupid, stupid company.
