While I tend to be firmly in the camp of a cleaner planet, we all (me included) get the itch for a more efficient engine, but at what cost?. Check out this video at the 6:00 minute point. Hard NO.

All that's doing is dumping a bunch of extra fuel. The black smoke is wasted diesel. People who do that to any vehicle are so annoying. You can make a diesel run clean without all the DEF, and other crap. You tune it correctly and you'll have plenty of power and great fuel economy and an engine that will last forever. That guy just wants to annoy people.

You can have a clean exhaust or you can have optimal power. But you can't have both.

The engine will live a longer life than the guy riding behind you.

Mine has a clean tune. I didnt want to trurn it ip too high and cause other failures . Its more fuel efficient and runs cooler. Goes like hell

If only the amount of soot coming out of direct injected gasoline engines were as visible as direct injected diesels, you would see that this is all around you. But out of sight, out of mind, and it is only the one that can be seen that is viewed as the bad one even though the PM from direct injected gasoline engines is much worse for you do to how small the PM is.

I am not a person that likes to roll coal, and you can delete without rolling coal by staying with a lower powered tune. Instead of going with the +80hp tune, then I would stick with the +0hp tune or +30hp tune. The +50hp and +80hp will emit a lot of PM if you get on it, but then again, so does a tuned direct injected gasoline vehicle like my old F150 Ecoboost.

You can have a high power tune that doesn't roll coal. You need more air to match the extra fuel. Trouble is, you run hotter with a non-coal tune and end up with a bunch of NOx, which is what DEF is for.

Definitely true, but I was referring to stock hardware, tune only that most people do. I don't see many people swapping turbos on the Ecodiesel like I do in the Cummins and BMW diesel forums. I don't think it can be done on the stock turbo, but I could be wrong.
