I don't remember ever hearing of this, but saw it installed on Dakota when we were car shopping a few months ago. I suppose it's like a sacrificial anode that supplies electrons to the cars metal surfaces so those metal surfaces can retain their own electrons and not corrode.

They've been around for a few decades and don't work.

A friend with a JK had it and 2 years later he got some weird tiny rust dots on the paint all over, apparently that was the cause who knows.
