We have a 2021 wrangler unlimited rubicon diesel that has been having many issues. It was purchased in 2022. The issues started early on. We had where we couldn’t shut the vehicle off. We had the the seat heater on the driver seat not staying on. We had several other issues and each time it sat at the dealer for weeks. Now we are in limp mode hell. All batteries replaced. Accelerator actuator and component parts replaced. Full wiring harness replaced. Each repair a 4-6 week parked period at the dealer. It’s been back in for over 6 weeks supposedly waiting for a new turbo. Jeep can’t seem to find one. Each repair lasts about 2 weeks and then the vehicle does the limp mode and back in it goes. The dealer we first dealt with has lost all the paperwork for the issues that we were dealing with early on including the recall repair for the exhaust/injector system that was required for me to renew the license here in California. I showed them a series of text messages that I had from service at the time and they finally issued the paperwork to satisfy DMV. We never received paperwork as their system required you to download it yourself from a link and the links didn’t work. When we requested paperwork it was all about a new system change over and they had let go their entire service rep. Dept. The new dealer we are going to seems to be a bit more put together but we are still getting no where. This problem started while the vehicle was still under warranty But because of the paperwork issue at the first dealer we technically can’t prove it. We have been in contact with @JeepCares to no avail. They just want to refer to government arbitration Or throw more parts at it. We are beyond frustrated with this issue and are thinking its time to get legal counsel. I am putting this on here for both repair input, did anyone actually get this issue fixed?? And a legal referral if someone has had good success in resolving this. We have hung in here hoping for a fix because all and all we really like the vehicle. Enough is enough. I don’t want to die in this Automobile Because of a limp mode Episode on the mountain road highway that we drive at just the wrong time.

Brief summary of your situation - You’re Fooked.

Open an account on the Jeep website and add your Jeep to your garage using the VIN. The only way the dealer got reimbursed for all their hard work was to submit paperwork to Jeep. This gives you at least a partial record of the number of times you have tried to get the problem fixed.

if you made the service reservations online, you should have a rexypt message and/or email trail. If so document dates for drop off and pickup.

Many eco diesel Jeeps have the same problems. First is the electrical problem associated with the PCM harness and high speed CAN Bus system. This causes a lot of issues, but also obscures the main problem of engine overheating and turbo errors resulting in limp mode. The electrical problem is fixable if the technician tests every single connection at the PCM while also pushing on the wires to test for a loose pin.

The electrical problems are seemingly random and usually can’t be replicated by the technician without a little luck. At the advice of a Jeep technician the dealer replaced the PCM, only to find that it was the harness causing the issue. In my case, problem solved. However, after replacing the turbo, the problem persisted since the turbo error is a symptom and not the cause.

All good, except now you are left with the real problem…engine oil and coolant temperatures that cause turbo errors when under a heave load, like a long mountain grade at highway speeds. Dealers can’t usually replicate this problem unless they take a long drive then go up a long grade at highway speeds. If you watch your oil and coolant temperatures on a grade, you will see oil and water temperatures hitting around 250 and 235, respectively, then limp mode.

To their credit, my dealer finally had someone drive a highway grade guaranteed to replicate the problem. Twice they experienced limp mode at almost the exact location that I had. After chasing the problem with new cooling system parts, no improvement. They collected data using an OBD dongle on one of their mountain excursions and have punted to Jeep and opened a STAR case.

Since punting to Jeep I have been ghosted by the dealer except for them asking if I had regeared after adding larger tires…which was part of the package from the original dealer when new. They closed out their service record as if the problem was solved. I had to go to the dealer to get an update and only then learned of the STAR case status. Since then, they have moved my Jeep to a different location and claim ignorance of what is happening.

The dealer doesn’t know I have an independent tracker and know exactly where the Jeep is located. I’ll probably stop by the dealer to get an update and ask to see the Jeep. If I get an excuse, I’ll repossess the Jeep using the spare key and turn everything over to a lawyer.

I have been pretty patient and understanding about the complexity of the problem, especially since it seems fairly common with the Jeep Eco Diesel. There is a reason Jeep no longer has a diesel option.
