I wanted to give a shout on to the Craig and the folks at Koons for the easiest buying experience I have ever had with a new vehicle.

My time line:

  • April 8 - initial email
  • April 10 - confirmed price for specific features
  • April 12 - ordered and placed $1000 down payment
  • May 4 - notified vehicle was in transit.
  • May 5 - delivered to Koons
  • May 10 - pick up
I don’t get anything for this review or post. I am making it for two reasons:
  1. Good customer service is still rare and I think it is very important to call out a great experience when you find one. It really is a rare today. This is a focus with my own business.
  2. As much as I liked the Koons/Craig experience, it is just ridiculous that I had to make a 500 mile round trip on a nearly $50k purchase to be taken seriously. I talked to quite a few local dealers (April 10-12) and the only one even close wanted $700 over invoice (another wanted $3K over MSRP….I guess I looked like a sucker that day).

Some day, I will goto Jeep.com, pick our options, and be done with it. Until then, Koons is my next best option.

I, too, am a member of the take a long road trip for a superior buying experience club, It is unbelievable how fast you can get 4 doors!!! It's not like that at all over on the 2 door thread...some of us are starting to get a little grumpy

I hear yah. I felt the same way in the tri-state area. Funny part is I kept getting calls AFTER purchasing from Koons and when I broke the news to them they were surprised. I told them it could've been you but too bad you're up-charging lol.

I am about ready to pull the trigger and in the same boat. Not one SoCal dealer will deal and in fact when I tell them about a 5% below invoice deal they come back like total pricks and tell me "good luck with that" or "don't worry they will add a bunch of fees and won't be that cheap" type of comments.

Road trip here we come. I wish Koons would ship, obviously with a fee and that would still be cheaper than these SoCal stealers.

I was told numerous times that going 5% under would require they lose money on the deal. At most dealerships[1] there are too many people with their hands in the cookie jar. Cut back on this and I think it opens things up. Someday the manufactures will take back the power in sales (similar to Tesla) or maybe someone like Amazon will step in and do what Koons does at scale.

[1] Of course there are also likely just as many hands (or more) in the manufacturing cookie jar as well.

I too went through Craig. Ordered a JLU Sahara in White, loaded, 5% under invoice on 2/23, picked up on 4/3. Easy transaction. No trade, sold a car through CarMax, financed through USAA. Would do it all over again.

Bump for Craig. Purchased from koons 3/4 and picked up 4/28 (week later than arrival due to work schedule). Craig was great and can see why he praises such great reviews from his customers. Finance department also matched hayes unlimited warranty offer. Well worth 215 mile drive for me as NJ dealers were not budging (even with price matching guarantees on written quotes). Fun fact...ask craig to see map of customers he has sold to. He is missing very few states. Great sales guy. Even when my appointment was slightly delayed due to backlog for craig, he regularly checked on me and gave me keys to check out jeep and made sure I was comfortable. A+ experience.

Would recommend Jim Marsh in Vegas. Mariana Medina and Antonio were my contacts. Deal was great! ~6.5% under invoice. I got Maintenance, life time warranty and taxes/reg for California for around MSRP. Flew out of San Diego with the wife. Spent the weekend in Vegas. Uber drive out to Dealership was ~$30. Picked up on Monday to drive home. Great experience:like:

Congrats on the new ride!

I will be picking up from Craig shortly as well. So the finance guy matched Hayes Unlimited Warranty quote? Right now I think the quote is $2745 w/$100 deductible from Hayes.

When I asked finance a while back, $3000 was the best they could do.

The finance guy agreed to match but then came back with 2,825 on the paperwork ($80 increase - he misunderstood me that hayes provided price already included the $80 increase). Instead of fighting on it and changing paperwork, I told him if he let me pay with credit card (on top of 3k max already paid towards downpayment) I was fine. Probably could have got him down to hayes exact price but it was 830pm and had 4 hour drive ahead of me and wanted to get out of there. With tax total came to 2,909.75.

Have a written quote available when you come in and they should match. They require this to match vs verbal quote. Email would be fine.

Good luck!
