I've got a question: Can you trickle charge through the "lighter" port?
If the lighter port is hot with the jeep off, then yes. It's probably not the most efficient way, but you can try it out and see if it works.

It's my understanding that the lighter port in the dash is electrified as an accessory: meaning its on only when the start button is pushed (twice I think).

That button press could coincide with you pressing the brake pedal and cranking the engine or not.

It's my understanding that the lighter port in the cargo area, if equipped, is, by default, as set from the factory, always on (i.e. connected directly to the batteries, not as an accessory.) Flip a fuse as per the owner's manual and it can be configured to operate like the lighter in the dash, in accessory mode only.

I used the plural: batteries above. I haven't tested this, but it's my belief that both batteries in the 3.6L are always connected in parallel, but for an instant during a cold crank, or the length of an ESS event. That would seem to me to suggest that if your pulling/pushing current from this rear lighter with the rig off and parked, or on (but not in an ESS event) and using that back lighter, that you're drawing/supplying current from/to both batteries: but I am not certain.

I might also suggest that during an ESS event that both back and front lighter ports get their/supply current solely from/to the ESS battery: again, not confirmed.
