I had some questions about the battery I can seem to find any answers online to. How do I charge both batteries? How can I jump start the Jeep if both batteries work together? What type of battery are they, lead acid, AGM....? Thanks

The owners manual for 2019 says to just jump them as normal.

If your aux battery is bad, it’s no different than trying to jump a bad regular battery. In that case you need a new battery.

Everything I'm reading on line says you can't just jump it like a regular battery which would mean you probably can't charge it like a regular battery, plus how can you charge the Aux battery? They both need to be charged.

I'm no specialist. Here you will find people that are: a tandem thread on this subject: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/jl-jumpstart.23430/

In short I agree with you. I believe the jump start event is really a quickie minimal charge and then a jump start.

It is also my understand that at all times but for engine crank, both the Aux and main batteries are connected (in parallel)--so hooking up energized cables to either one of the batteries is essentially like hooking up cables to both.

My answer is from "60K feet." The link covers how if the ESS battery has been depleted or fails, the vehicle won't crank, when the batteries are isolated, what each battery powers during this isolation, along with ways to work around one of the battery's failing.

To charge them find the red auxiliary post post under the hood. Put the positive on the red auxiliary post and the negative somewhere on the vehicle that has a good ground.

Good luck with that
It’s worked on my Pacifica with the same system.
When you jump start, the donor battery is supplying juice to the starter, not your battery or aux battery. Your batteries just need to be healthy enough to be a pass through.

If no donor car available it will be tough with portable charger without removing a battery from system

@Jeep 5150 2112

Using a Trickle Charger, you can charge both the Main and the Aux batteries at the same time.
-Just connect the Trickle Charger to the main battery positive and negative terminals. You will find, that it will take between approx 10 and 16 hrs. to trickle charge until your Trickle Charger indicates charging is completed.

Yes, you can jump start a JL with battery cables, the same way guy/gals have jump started vehicles for years.
-Just be sure the 12v donor vehicle is up to the job, have decent battery jumper cables, and when you connect the donor vehicle, let it sit connected to the JL, for say 5-10 minutes before you attempt to start the JL.

From experience, I can tell you, even a top notch, very pricey, 12v power pack will not have enough oomph, lets call it to get a stock, JL jump started.

Sure, someone may be able to get a 12v power pack to do the deed on a stock JL, but this remains to be seen.

I think, do believe, if you use a jumper wire and you also isolate the two batteries, then a 12v power pack will work. This remains to be seen.

Yes, I have a lot to learn but I do know what I just spewed is spot on.

Anyone have a trickle charger preference? I use one that I use on my motorcycle as well by Xtreme.

I use a Battery Tender Plus on my Motorcycle, and had one for my Mustang as well.
