Hi, could someone please help me make sense of the following?

2023 Wrangler Rubicon without LED package

In the menu, Daytime running lights are set to “on”

With “auto” setting, I get the following:
-with headlights on, DRL is on
-with headlights off, DRL is off (shouldn’t DRL be on?)

When manually toggling the lights, I get the following:
-Off: Everything off (shouldn’t DRL be on?)
-Aux lights: DRL on
-Lights on: Headlights and DRL on

Am I missing something here? Aren’t DRL supposed to be on when the headlights are off?

I have all the bulbs upgraded to Oracle LED’s, but they appeared to be working correctly at the time of installation. I only found the results today after seeing the light reflections from the car in front of me.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

There's nothing to fix. Off is off.

Otherwise the OFF detent would be called OFF-ish

Unless you have a Canadian model, then you do not have an OFF position. Only the parking brake will turn off the DRL's for them.

Thanks for the reply.

What about for auto mode? Shouldn’t daytime running lights be on when headlights are off? Otherwise, they’re not exactly daytime running lights.

I was also next to a gladiator with halogens, and his DRL’s were on while mine were off (with headlights off for both vehicles).

If you used the Oracle LED bulb, you lose one function of the DRL. The halogen bulb you removed has 2 filaments inside the bulb (bright-daytime or dim-night). The LED is only capable of one function. You can rotate the LED 180° in the plug and then it will be on when the lights are off, flip it 180° again and it will be on when the headlights are on. I bought a set of the amber and clear Oracle LED's and installed them on one side. It only took me about 5 minutes before deciding to remove them & put the halogens back in. I did not like losing the DRL function in daylight or at night.

Thank you! This completely explains it!

I wonder if someone makes a led that would do both. It seems like adding another filament should be doable.

I may give these a try. Supposedly the Stage 1 bulbs retain both parking light and DRL functions. It also says that resistors are only required for turn signals, so I wouldn’t need to mess with them by keeping my existing turn signal bulbs.

Part of my debate is if I should just go aftermarket with the whole assembly or stick with the bulbs.

Update: I purchased and installed the diode dynamics DRL LEDs and it works perfectly in both DRL and headlight modes! The DRL mode is noticeably brighter than headlight mode, which is how it should be.

The pack came with Amber turn signals, but I didn’t use them as 1) they require resistors, and 2) I already have oracle turn signal LEDs installed which don’t require resistors. I wish I could have gotten the DRL only, but it wasn’t available.

For those interested, I definitely recommend the DRL LEDs from diode dynamics as it retains all functions, and it doesn’t require added resistors. For the turn signals, I would go with Oracles as they don’t require resistors (the diode dynamics would in this case).

Good to hear that you found some bulbs that had the dual function. I just may have to try a set!
