Door check strap floating nut problem! Help please!

Has anyone ever taken their doors off and when you go to put them back on you discover that the floating nut is no longer there?
I took my doors off for the second time since owning my jeep and when I got home and going to put the driver side passenger door on, the bolt went straight through. From what I have read online, there is a floating nut there and it has come detached. I’ve tried viewing inside to see if I can spot it and I can’t.
Has anyone ever had this happen and if so how do I fix this?

Well it has gone, maybe down in the door post. Even if you found it I doubt it would be much good, so you need a fix. You could take it to a mechanic or you could put a rivet nut in the hole. You may have to open the hole up a bit with a drill. Find out the size of the bolt that fitted the lost nut, find out the drill size for a rivet nut for that thread. You will have to buy more than 1 rivet nut, even a kit. The rivet nut can be fitted with out a Rivet nut tool, look it up online.

Kind of long, but gives the general idea. Looks like an M8 rivnut will fit without drilling. Also as has been said, for one rivnut, no need to buy an expensive tool. Unless you’re like me and use every excuse to get more tools.

I’m going to guess….with no basis. Not common. My other wild ass guess. The m8 screw loosens and the popping sound goes unnoticed or is ignored. The screw starts pushing and pulling against the internal hardware when the door opens and closes each time until it leaves the chat,

If you’ve been using a drill driver, or small impact, dont do that anymore. The bolt only required a few lbs of torque.

@Terrymo thanks man I have been trying to find a video but I’m guessing I just wasn’t searching right. I would really like to not drill. I might get the tool just to get it. I’d rather have it then not (my reason to always needing the get a tool I don’t have)
