Had a JK before my JL and there was no hard-point attachment for the doors, just the strap. I never had an issue in 8 years.

This new attachment (the hard rubber that’s bolted in) is not only an extra step, but also the constant on/off operation on unprotected paint doesn’t give me serenity.

I live in Montreal where I can’t just “leave the doors off”… i need to take them on and off at least weekly. So I have two questions:

1) anyone find a good reason to keep those things there?

2) anyone find an easy way to either fully shove them in the doors so that they do not contact the paint even when the doors are closed, or remove them completely?

Thanks!

I just pushed them in all the way and stuck a piece of gorilla/duct tape over the part that hits the paint. No issues of paint wear for 4 years now. One of the first things I did.

The door check arms, as they're called, may be invaluable for the passenger who isn't expecting their absence, and allows a now-uncontrolled door to swing open and hit something.

My YJ didn't have them, and I'm glad that my JLU does.

Note that if allowed to retract fully into the door, significant force is required to pull the check arms back out sufficiently to allow their reattachment to the A & B pillars. A specialized puller is available; I've one stowed in my Jeep as I type this post. Alternately, a length of paracord can be used for the task.

You can just put a screwdriver through the stop hole and into the threaded part of the tub. Then just open door a little and it pops out enough that you can thread the bolt in to pop them out fully.
I agree they are annoying.
