I’m reading this elsewhere, how accurate is this advice?

I'm pretty sure the manual states 87 octane minimum.

I live in Colorado, where 87 is mid grade, and 91 at Costco is less than 87 everywhere else, so I run 91.

So the short answer is "maybe".

While premium isn't required, I burn it exclusively. Paid a lot for my Wrangler and it just doesn't make sense to me to get concerned about nickel and dime issues. Heck, I hesitate to fill up at any place that isn't listed as Top Tier.

I normally run 89 top tier gasoline. If it’s hot or I’m doing highly speed driving I run 91 octane. I’ve run 87 a few time…seems a bit less peppy. I run 91 octane in the mountains/high elevation. I only have 36,000 miles on my 2020 JL…but it has always run great.

Not required. Recommended for optimal performance per the owners manual. My 2.0 hasn't seen anything but 85-87 octane for 37k miles. I live at 7000 ft and octane is reduced at altitude. I haven't heard it ping ever.
