I always fold them in when I go to the car wash. I think that’s the primary reason so the car wash rollers don’t damage your vehicle. Also I remove my antenna prior to going through a car wash. If the antenna gets wrapped around the car wash rollers it will rip it right out of your fender. Not a pretty sight. Ruin your day.

The reason they “fold” is for pedestrian safety in an accident. It’s not a convenience feature and should be used regularly or the mirrors will get loose and vibrate. They cannot be tightened as far as I know.

Well if hit someone with mine, their heads just gonna pop off! I think mine have just seized into place. Just went out to try again and it just isn't budging. My buddy's mirrors fold in so smoothly. Any ideas on getting them to loosen up without breaking them?

Spray the hinged area with a penetrating oil and try wiggling it.

@JLJeepGuy513

You may need to get a little more butch with them... 8-) Grab a hold of the mirror from the top and try to forcefully kinda wobble it. Once you get it to wobble a bit more freely, you may then be able to get the mirror to turn.

Those mirrors/ both, can be easily replaced by most anyone. Very very easy to replace. Take about 8-10 min to do.. They cost about $120+-.

Read here to learn more about the mirrors... a video how to replace and pics of the mirrors inner's...

Ok so after reading about the level of violence required I just tried this. Definite plastic splintering and cracking sounds first. Then wiggling and finally it turned.

My problem seemed to have been that the joint was full of sand and dirt. I definitely recommend some silicon spray or similar around the base of the circular mount of the mirror.

Its probably a good idea to do this as soon as possible once the jeep is new so its easier and you also know the effort required. Im sure the effort will lessen with use.. Or add lubricant when required. They turn both forward and back in line with the body.
