After 9/11 when everyone was still in panic mode especially in NYC, a mechanic found a unknown "device" under a bus being serviced.
They emptied the building had us all stand in the street and had the NYPD and FDNY show up like the building was on fire.
It was a GPS from the manufacturer.

Ok, as long as this thing is easy to spot. I'll take a look and there will be hell to pay if I find one.
Its not been delivered yet correct? Also check over your paperwork and bring it up before it shows up at the dealer

Yeah, it's still at the factory, but nothing like that shows up on the downloaded build sheet, nor on the order sheet from the dealer. I don't have a window sticker yet.

But I also factory ordered my 2024 from the same dealership, and I can take a look under the dash tomorrow. No out of place things are mentioned on any of the paperwork.

The local dealer will be the one that installs any gps units.

They have also been installed near the battery box.

You’ve been a member since ‘22 and your avatar shows a pre-24 grill. Think it’s been there for years, did you buy it used, or did you recently have work done?
It’s a ‘19 and I’m the 2nd owner. I think it’s been there at least since I bought it if not when it was sold new.

Gotta monetize everything, slip a one liner in a 20 page contract and you're good to go.

I recently contacted a dealer in CA about a JL, just out of curiosity (I'm on the other side of the country). They mentioned in their ad that Low Jack was included. Yeah, no. I'm no conspiracy theorist or anything, but my phone is bad enough. At least I can leave that thing at home if I want to. Apparently, they said that they HAVE TO install Low Jack.

... now if I can just get rid of this microchip, I'll be all set ...

Yeah, you don't have to be paranoid or a conspiracy theorist to be against having a faceless corporation tracking and monetizing your every move.

If corporate America does it, then it is perfectly fine. If I did it, it would be considered stalking.

I don't get it. Why would a dealership put this on a factory ordered vehicle? It's not like they can't track it through the Jeep app.

(And now I'm getting paranoid.)
I'm guessing the hardware cost is minimal. If they can get somebody to agree to their subscription terms, there's a big payoff.

Sort of like HP printers. Cost was cheap. They made money on ink cartridges.

The forum search engine is equivalent to asking the 23 year old teen woman working the plumbing section at Lowes for help finding a fitting. No generalizations for Lowes or stereotypes on women working there. Personal experience here.

I don't shame people who post repeated thread topics. It does help keep current info relevant and easier to for others to find.
Perhaps you can start the next thread on tire size and gearing. The science around that topic hasn’t changed in fifty years, and this site is probably several thousand pages into the discussion and making no progress toward consensus, but folks still like to start a new thread asking about the “best” gearing for 35/37 inch tires every few weeks or months. You can beat the next poster to the punch!

The forum search engine generally produces a summary of input from the same people who post on the topic when it’s restarted again in a new thread. The only difference is, some of the most knowledgable forum participants stopped providing answers after the 10th time the question was asked.

I’m among the least knowledgable, so I continue to respond.

Yeah. Not disclosing something like that is on the car you purchase should be illegal.
It's very likely on the fine print of his loan agreement, which can loosely be considered as "informed consent" in some juristictions.
Federal law, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), provide some protections against unauthorized tracking.
However, since the OP is in CA, the law is clear. California has enacted legislation that requires clear disclosure of any tracking technology installed in a vehicle.

Check out the below link for some additional details.

Maybe…. I’ve bought from dealers with no dealer ads and no such device has been in the vehicle.
