I think most people that complain about them do so because of engine sound. Turbos do not sound good...that is why many auto makers use fake engine sound piped in through the speakers to make the experience better. I know BMW and Ford do. Then some folks just cant stomach the missing cylinders.

Not to mention the huge improvement you get at altitude... I live at 5k ft above sea level and do most offroading at like 10-12k. So for people that live in places like Colorado and Utah, the 2.0L is better in almost every way.
My STI was my first turbo, and the only car to need a new motor even after regular oil changes and no track time.

That, and I like to row my own leaves me with the 6 speed V6. Test driving the new JL left me feeling that it had plenty of pep up here even with the weight of the 4 door.

SO I am waiting for my Punk'n.

I'd disagree, i love the sound of a turbo, from the spool up "whoosh" to the blowoff if it at least partially Vent To Atmosphere.
That 2.0 sounds 100x better when you put exhaust on it compared to the Pentastar.

Pentastar with exhaust sounds terrible IMO.

They use sound from speakers to give you the performance feel because engines are so damn silent today.

Hmmm.... Personally, I dig the turbo sound. Especially when I had my '87 Buick Grand National, with electronic cutout pipe! O_O

So what is appeal of the turbo on a rubicon? Serious question.

We picked up the 3.6 on our sport and I’d rather of had a diesel but don’t understand why the turbo is appealing for low speed off road vehicle. Is it just for when on road? Turbo only kicks in at higher rpm unlike a supercharger, correct?

Again, serious question as I’m curious. Thx.
This guy does a great comparison between the 2.0 and the 3.6. You might be surprised.

I live at 5k ft above sea level, and most of the offroading I do is like 10-12k ft. The same V6 in my JK feels very sluggish up here.

Also, the 2.0L has more torque and at lower RPMs, which is better for the crawling/slow stuff that we do on very rough Colorado service roads.
Check this out! I live in Colorado. This is one of the reasons I passed up the 3.6 to wait for the 2.0.
