I was talking to a buddy on the phone when I got into my Jeep after work today, I described my irritation at how the climate control works, and he wondered if I didn't have a bug. I have no basis of comparison, so I thought I would ask the forum is this is normal.

So it's transitioning into fall. It's cool and humid at night. The windshield tends to sweat, and if I take off like that, the condensation gets even worse. I need to take the climate control out of auto mode, where it was set to 70°, and put it into defrost mode. The outside temperature at this time is 70°.

I hit the front defrost button. Climate control is now out of auto mode. Thermostat is still at 70°. It blows the fog off the driver's side, but the passenger side is actually getting foggier. I put my hand above the vent, and it's blowing cold on the passenger side.

I have to hit the up arrow on the thermostat, or use the touch controls. Up up up. Still cold. Up up up up up up up up up up. Still cool, but warmer. Now the temperature is set at like 80°. Now the driver side is cool, now the passenger side is cool. As the thermostat thing struggles to try to achieve a particular target temperature, it goes through periods of blowing air that's too close to the dew point at my glass. Up up up up up up up up up up up up. I eventually end up at HI, and now it blows hot enough to melt my eyeballs, but the glass never fogs over again.

Then the next day, it's 88°, and I start my Jeep, and it's set at HI on auto. Down down doobie doobie down down. I am CONTINUALLY having to futz with the temperature control, and it's very annoying.

My buddy thinks the Jeep should just go to HI in defrost mode, and back to the thermostat setting when I go back to auto. I think the engineers at Chrysler probably did design something this annoying, and it's probably working as designed. It just isn't designed that well.
