Hello all...... Aside from the ducks prancing across the dash, my wife drives a bone stock mall crawler, WITH 38,000 MILES :) :)

I was driving on freeway at 65 m.p.h. with the ambient temp bout 25 degrees and with out any warning, Im struggling to keep my wife's prize jeep between the lanes and off the semi next to me!! After a white knuckle trek across the freeway expecting to find 2 blown tires......Nothing!!! and all suspension intact and tight!
I spent two days under and over chassis and researching the death wobble and then off to the dealer. HERES WHERE THE FUN BEGINS......
Upon arrival I voiced my displeasure over my white knuckle ride and service writer said...... oh ! O.K. probably just a stabilizer and should be covered under your extended warranty. Sill voicing my concern, that there is a class action suit and the repair should be covered by Chrysler. SORRY NOT ON YOUR JEEP!! What ever!!
So 4 days later and $335 later ($270 to diagnose...wtf) again voicing my displeasure as Im paying the bill to a different service writer ...... said hold on, pounded on the computer for a bit, and suddenly got a s**t eating grin and said, here's your refund for your repair. So I was right...... No answer!! Other than, we will order the correct part under the T.S.B. ( Technical Service Bulletin )

Here's the info I promised !!
TSB 19-002-24 REV. A
2020 JT, 18 JK, 18-20 JT, AND
APPLIES TO JL AND JT BUILT ON OR BEFORE AUGUST 11 ,2020
PART # 68624107AA FOR JT
PART # CCUKV411AD FOR JL
CUSTOMER ISSUE....... IRREGULARITY OF ROADS IN COLD TEMP
CAUSE.... AIR TRAPPED IN DAPNER
WITH WARRANTY TO......96 MONTHS OR 90,000 MILES WITH A CODE OF (XF1) 18-20 MY AND 20-20 MY J

OH BOY!!! MORE FUN!!........ The stabilizer that I originally paid for and that was installed to replace the bad O.E.M. part, was part #68624105AA. After putting a marking line on installed shock and waiting 4 days for the T.S.B. stabilizer, I returned to dealer for the new part. 45 min wait........ and all done!!! Geeee, scribed chalk mark still there!!! Off to service manager ...... why wasn't part replaced???? Lot of whispering behind closed doors for a bit........ Sorry, we will put the T.S.B. stabilizer on!!! Great.. 15 min later, done and checked for the chalk mark and Im off. Get home and to my surprise THE STABILIZER HAS THE SAME PART # ON IT 68624105AA NOT #CCUKV411AD. Dialed up the service manager asked W.T.F. So it seems Chrysler is putting a stock off the shelf replacement in a re-marked box and calling it a T.S.B. part!!!
Im still in the process of figuring out the slight of hand on Chryslers part and how they are getting away with it !! post when I get to the bottom of it. Hope the info helps anyone with same issues............Cant we all, just drive without a death grip on steering wheel!! :]

And yes on the other posts for the stabilizer...... there is a up/down and left/right marked for install...... And cycled 5 times in /out per T.S.B.!!!

The stabilizer just masks the underlying problem, and your dealer won't diagnose what the underlying problem is and they won't fix it either. I had DW at around 45k miles and fixed mine with an aftermarket track bar. One of my friends has a stock Sahara and had DW at just over 100k miles, he spent about $1200 getting it fixed. Another friend has a Sahara 4xE and has DW at around 40k miles. She has gotten the stabilizer replaced.

I agree the whole stabilizer thing is a bunch of hog wash and B.S. to make NTSB happy. My thought is a track bar with rod ends and not having bushings to wiggle around

Anyone done a track bar with rod ends???
How much harshness is transferred to the cab and or through steering for a stock suspension

The factory stabilizer is undersized for the vehicle. This leads to it failing early and often. Normal solid axle drivetrain vibrations and oscillations combined with even moderate tire wear will cause it to fail quickly. We've especially seen these fail very commonly on the 4XEs due to their heavier weight combined with 20" wheels.

I strongly suggest upgrading to a properly sized dampener to avoid this happening in the future. Just because it's covered under warranty and "free" doesn't mean it's worth the risk of continuing to use it. MSRP of these things is like $40. They're dirt cheap for a reason.

If you shake the front end down and nothing is obviously wrong do not try chasing it further than just replacing the dampener. This is an unbelievably common problem on the JL.

I had a 2007 JKR that developed DW. Changed track bar and steering stab and still had DW. The tires were badly worn so I replaced them and expected to still be chasing DW, but it went away with the new tires.

Current 2019 JLU with 53k miles developed shimmy that felt like it was about ready to go into DW. I retorqued steering components, got movement on nuts at tie rod ends and drag link at steering knuckle, and replaced factory steering stab with Rancho RS7MT stab. The shimmy is gone and steering feels tighter.

Current 2021 JLUR with 50k miles got shimmy a little worse than the 2019. Checked torque on steering and got a little more movement than on the 2019. Most of the shimmy went away and I'm waiting for a Rancho stab to arrive, hoping it will have the same result as the 2019.

This issue typically seems to be related to the track bar from thread I've been on in various places and in my own experience. I replaced the track bar and added the track bar brace that connects to the steering box. Problem solved. BTW, I wasn't able to detect anything loose by going under and shaking things. I can't apply the force that the Jeep applies going down the road. Track bar seemed very solid when trying to move it by hand.

Here is my theory- DW is primarily the axle bouncing back and forth. When it moves left, the drag link makes the wheels turn to the right which causes the axle to move to the right, and when it moves right the drag link makes the wheels turn left, and so the axle vibrates back and forth. It can't move back and forth if the track bar is completely restraining it, but the frame flexes a little bit too. There has to be something making the axle want to move back and forth which in some cases is just hitting a bump right, or as I've experienced elsewhere if the road roughness and vehicle speed set up a frequency that matches the frequency the axle wants to vibrate. Different people have experienced DW at different speeds, for me it was 45mph, for my friend with a stock Sahara it was 70mph, so again different frequencies. And if your tires are rough then the vibration of the tires can also set up the vibration of the axle. In my case I had old tires, I had them balanced and it didn't change anything, I put on new tires and it didn't change anything. I changed only the track bar and it stopped. I couldn't detect any movement in the original track bar.

To be honest, only happened one time.......THAT WAS ENUF FOR ME!!
Tech said that the stabilizer was jerky through the stroke in and out and replaced it! Jury still out!!
My issue is why the T.S.B. replacement part # to install (CCUKV411AA)out of said box is the same as the one, parts guy pulled out of stock, off the shelf. Just in a different box. I've been on the horn with Jeep, to get an answer why the sleight of hand with the parts and the band aid fix!! I haven't gotten anywhere, yet!

Personally Im pointing my finger at the Panhard bar bushings and the under size metric bolts attaching the panhard bar to the frame and axle. Would be a cheep fix with urethane and new bolts!! Going to tackle that repair and see! Probably cure the whole thing on stock suspension!

PANHARD bar is setting everythig in motion in reguards to the geometry of the steering.

Main reason for the post was to supply infomation and extended warranty about the T.S.B that is out there and the DEALERS are being tight lipped about!!

to get an answer why the sleight of hand with the parts and the band aid fix!!
Mine happened repeatedly and I knew what roads and what conditions would trigger it. On the freeway on smooth roads, no problem.

I think the deal with the parts is they have had some many complaints that they have had to manufacture new parts and they are running out of both the old parts and the new parts. My friend with a Sahara 4xE had her Jeep in and they told her there was a new fix but the parts were backordered, and even the old parts were backordered. The last I heard she had gotten a new old style part installed, still waiting on the new style part.

How much did you research dw? There is so much out there it gets ridiculous when new threads appear. Are your tires original? If so, they are the trigger (not the cause, but the spark that'll set it off) most likely even if they tell you they are balanced.

you are right on track about trackbar bushings. 1st upgrade should've been the most heavy duty trackbar made. I like the steersmarts yeti one with pro bushings. Next, get new tires if yours aren't. Some tires are more dw resistant than others.... my guess is stiffer side walls, etc. I've had bfg, Goodyear, michelin, etc... but the best tires I've run with zero dw are falken at3 and at4s. They are a little heavier but i have over 30k on mine now with no issues. My bfg ko2s started getting dw at 23k miles. After Hd track bar, had a slight shimmy but no dw. New tires.... no more dw or shimmy. Rotate and balance your tires at least every 5k miles when you get new ones. Older, worn tires just seem to not balance right, even when "balanced". Mud terrains are more susceptible to this.

Tj, jk, jl...i own/ have owned all 3. All three have under-built track bars.... actually the soft bushings and undersized bolt (in the tj specifically) are the bigger issues. A tiny bit of track bar play is all it takes. I'm surprised you didn't come across this in your research.

If all suspension components seem tight and are in good shape, then the above advice holds true.

Now you know. Just my 2 cents and 20 years with Jeeps experience.
