Show me where I said that.

?
By saying this, “Sounds like pretty routine 30K miles preventive maintenance,” without addressing outrageous cost implied that you were fine with it. If I inferred something incorrectly, I apologize. It was all academic anyway, because I would not travel that far to do $100 worth of work for $600…

2020 Wrangler JLUR, 3.6L, 8 speed auto, 33,000 miles.

I was at the dealer today for my Wave service. (Oil and filter change).

I was told that I needed to have both differentials flushed as the oil was black. $189.95 for each axle.
This Rubicon has lockers, and I don't know if that makes it harder on the oil. I've used the lockers twice.
Does this sound like a ripoff?

Also, they tell me that I need induction service for $219.95.

Lastly, they tell me I need a brake flush for $189.95.

I appreciate any thoughts on this. I would guess I don't need any of it, please help.

Thanks,
Wait, they didn’t tell you you needed to change the headlight fluid too??

Thanks,
I heard of the diff fluid drain and fill pricing and I did it myself for a grand total of 45 minutes of my time and $60 for Amsoil Synthetic 75W-140 severe duty gear fluid. I had never done a diff before in my life and the first one took 24 minutes to drain and fill (you go until it starts weeping out of the fill hole). If you have a 3/8" socket wrench you can do it yourself. The second diff took 12 minutes total to complete the drain and fill. I drove around the neighborhood and made sure to turn in both directions and did a couple alternating u-turns to ensure I had fluid everywhere. I pulled the fill plugs and both immediately started weeping fluid so I knew I had enough fluid.

You can use any quality gear oil you choose and I use 75w-140 because I off-road and occasionally tow. I drain and fill both diffs every 25,000 miles. I log all the maintenance on the Jeep app so they can see that I meet or exceed all recommendations. I have never been asked if I want a single extra service when I went in for a recall or warranty work. I even logged the cabin and air filters and tire rotations. I also take photos of the odometer and the fluids I used to replace the old with just to cover all my bases.

So true. I have a 2 car garage. Time to start doing fluid changes myself. I’ll make it my 2022 New Years resolution. :):):)
I start doing them all on my Jeep and soon realized how much time I save that I now do all the vehicles. 15-minute job for an oil change. Manual trans, transfer case and each diff are all 15-minutes a pop as well.

Yes, don't forget the "stem lube". Before people get all upset, it is from a Simpson's episode.
He was just lucky they didn’t have to adjust the exasperator valve…. Just turn over your 401k.

I’ll comment on the differentials. I will start by saying that I am a believer in preventive maintenance. I also do things myself because I have the tools and a garage.

I haven’t bought gear oil in a while, but I’m guessing $30-$45 per axle. All you need is a 3/8” drive ratchet (an extension helps), and a drain pan. Should take 5-10 minutes per axle to drain, reinstall plug, and refill. This is how long it took me on my 2JKs.

The locker won’t cause the oil to be need to be changed any faster, It’s mostly from towing or lots of city driving.

I have never flushed brake fluid outside of replacing a caliper. That sounds like BS to me. And I don’t even know what that other service is.
You need to get away from that place as fast as you can. RIP OFF

Brake fluid is hygroscopic which means it attracts water. Water cause two issue. Rust and corrosion in the brake system and it lowers the temp at which brake fluid boils. Brake fluid usually has two ratings a dry one ie temp when the fluid boils and its brand new out fo the can and Wet when it is the system. I change the brake fluid on vehicles every two years and my vehicles that see track days or heavy off road use it could be every few weeks between track days. Not worth the risk. Water can cause seals to go and effect the ABS and traction control systems. Old style self bleeding does an okay job but cant get to all the fluid and for that you need the right gauges and programmers. Its your life and that couple feet extra that it takes to stop or slow down can be the difference between life and death.

Change the gear oil yourself, about $15 to $20 a quart , I don’t know what an induction service is, sounds like BS , brake fluid should be good for quite a while, maybe bleed them if you need a caliper or a line changed otherwise I would walk away !

Me either, it breaks all my 32bit engine apps, breaks engine EFI, and I keep having to remember the four digit engine PIN.

As do the service advisors.

I have a 2015 JK that when I went for an oil change the service advisor advised I needed brakes and would be $450.00. 3 months earlier on the previous oil change the service advisor commented that at 50K Miles my brakes looked new and asked if they were the original. I told her yes. She asked how I do it. Basically not speeding. By the way the 450.00 was pads and rotors. I told her to forget it. Complained to the manager on a phone call and he just listened. Long \story short I just change my brakes at 75K miles and still had 60% of the pads and no rotor damage other than some rust.

As far as differential fluid change they are easy to do with simple hand tools. Just prior to darning the fluid make sure you can get the fill plug out so you can refill. I never had a problem but just in case. With the DOT 3 and 4 fluid they have a tendency to collect water. I don't know how with a closed system but they do.; Simple hand vacuum pump from amazon or Harbor Freight with a 3/8" wrench is all you need. do mine yearly for the brakes.
