Hi, Im getting CarPlay disconnects and I've figured out why. The USB socket in the Dash Media socket is really shallow and no matter which cable I try sits flush in the USB socket. I'ver tried about 5 different cables including an Apple one
Is this the same for everyone or do I just have bad quality / fitting USB sockets? I have many USB sockets around the house and all the cables sit flush in all the sockets. The Jeep sockets is the only example where tip doesn't go down to the hilt.

I use a wireless Android Auto adapter in the USB-A port. I haven't had any significant issues. It will still disconnect every now and then. I've contributed it to Android Auto itself. The connection used to disconnect a lot more. With updates, it has been better. (I have a VW with factory wireless AA / Carplay and it also disconnects sometimes)

The wired option seems to disconnect a more. The USB cable can wiggle on both my phone and the Jeep. I'm sure that it can cause connection issues.

I don't really use the USB-C port on the Jeep. It seems to charge pretty slow through there anyway. I use a fast charging 10,000mah powerbank to charge if I need to.

HI
Thank you for the reply.
I might have to give one of these a try. What has held me back is the worry that sound quality will not be as good and when I look on Amazon so many dongles seem to have issues reading the reviews, a minefield of different dongles. Do dongles working in the armrest USB-A port?

The USB C not fully seated into the port is normal for these type of USB hubs. It shouldn't make a difference with the connection of the pins in the port with the pins on the cable. They should still be making contact. You may have some oxidation built up in the USB ports or just some dirt/dust. Try giving them a cleaning with some isopropyl alcohol 99%. This is safe for electronics. You can also change the USB hub out for a new one if it is going bad and yes USB hubs can go bad for a variety of reason. You're hubs part number should be 68505684AA.

HI Doug, Good idea, I'll try and give it a clean with some alcohol.
If it's not fully seated I'd expect to be a snug fit at least. there is some play as it is and if it moves it disconnects, even going over a bump on the road. I don't have a hub to compare but my USB-C chargers and the ports on my laptop and computer all allow a fully seated USB-C

thank you

There is a small metal ring around the USB C connection, this is what allows the snug fit. If that is bent outward then it could cause the USB C to not feel snug. That is why I suggested a replacement. These USB C plugs can get un-snug the more wiggle is applied to them, especially with a weight on the cable.

Ok, If alcohol doesn't work I'll try the USB-A or see about getting fixed.
Thank you for taking the time to offer help and reply.

Make sure to use a high quality cable that transmits data as well. I've read on here that people have had issues with some cables and not others.

This would be because the cable would be low quality if it is a cable issue. I doubt that is the issue in this specific case as @IbizaGuy used the Apple's cable which you can't better than that typically plus other cables. You want a cable that does data and power, some cables from like a gas station are for charging only and can make the data corrupt at times.

I bought a high quality 90 degree USB-C adapter to use with my iPhone cable so the door can close better. It fits snug and allows the cable to run downward with less stress on the port. Try searching Amazon for the adapter. It’s inexpensive.

Correct. I was referring to the USB-A they wanted to try.

Agree. I thought I was replying to the OP on this so he knew other options which could solve his concerns for the plug not being secure.

I did try the Apple cable and about 4 or 5 others all with data transfer. I was hoping one might have a slightly wider tip for a snugger fit. In the end I used a 75cm one because that seemed an ideal length.

Thank you. I've ordered a down firing USB-A to USB-C and down firing USB-C to USB-C to see if that's more stable.

I haven't tried a USB-A to USB-C Apple cable only a USB-C to USB-C Apple cable so I'll try one of those. I've bought so many cables now. lol :) Jeep should have made their own cable they would have made a mint. :)
