Hey Everyone,

Putting out diesel through a little workout in Moab. Absolutely love it!

Managed to find the tail pipe with a rock .... twice. lol

Thinking about cutting the pipe shorter by about 4". Just wondering if anyone had done something similar, and if pictures could be shared.

Thanks,

Jeff

Cutting 4” off won’t hurt anything. I pulled my muffler off and I have a straight pipe connecting where the muffler connects. Which, did nothing other than loose a little weight.

Did you put a turn down or anything on the end?

Idk about the JL but I cut the exhaust pipe on my CJ after smashing it on a rock and the fumes were terrible when the top was off. The exhaust didnt get caught in the slipstream behind the jeep and just recirculated in the turbulent air. I dont think this would be an issue with a JLU but something to consider.

On that note, I have bashed my tailpipe on my JLUR and will be curious to see your results, as I may do this as well.

I have a diesel but the exhaust outlet has never been an issue for me. I guess you have different rocks. I would be careful about shortening the tailpipe. Engineering has performs exhaust gas intrusion test so it is the way it is for a reason. Maybe just modify the rocks. 😆

I'm buying a tailpipe expander tool. I figure for the price I could give it a try before doing any cutting.

If you have time, would you take a picture of your tailpipe and post it here? Before I get creative, I thought I should have a better idea of what it looked like before I begin.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Allen,

Those are great pics. I couldn't remember if the tube was perfectly round, or if it had some kind of feature.

I appreciate you taking the pictures and posting so quickly.

The tool is supposed to arrive today. I'm anxious to see how it turns out.

Thanks for your help.

Jeff

Good idea! Is there such a thing as a dpf back exhaust lol? I'll have to research that.

We deleted the rear muffler and made a dump after the axle. There is very little (if any) sound difference but the increased clearance is great. Shortly after we deleted the storage bin and relocated the DEF tank. Filling it requires a bit more effort, but worth it IMO.

You did what I’ve been thinking about doing. Can you post up some pictures with how you relocated it? Hopefully it will give me some ideas for mine. Much appreciated.
