Using the standard cruise control, when I step on the throttle to pass, the usual "Driver Override" message pops up, and acceleration occurs normally, no problem. However, when I let off the throttle, the pedal rebounds, but there is a roughly two second delay before the throttle actually lets off, and the vehicle starts decelerating back to the set speed.

Is this delay normal operation? It seems strange that even though I let off the pedal, the throttle stays open.

The accelerator of the JL isn't actually connected to the engine. It's just a signal to the ECU which is what controls the speed of the engine. It's normal to have driver accelerator input smoothed out a bit, which is what you're seeing.

If it really bothers you, throttle response can be adjusted to be either quicker or smoother with a throttle controller.

But why, while using cruise control, would deceleration be delayed by almost two seconds?
Well, if you use the accelerator while in CC it's not really a throttle at that point. It's a driver override of CC, which is still engaged. Similar to increasing the CC speed setting but only temporarily and with your right foot.

When you release the accelerator with CC engaged it's going to act how cruise control does, not how an accelerator would. Instead of cutting the engine back to idle, it will maintain speed and dial it back to the speed set in CC. That's likely the 2 second delay you're talking about.

I figured that it's now throttle by wire, and during normal use, the throttle response is pretty decent, both ways. No complaints.

But why, while using cruise control, would deceleration be delayed by almost two seconds?
