Probably intended for a hook to hold it on the production line when it's being painted. End cap covers it right? Just an assembly item, nothing special. I like the flag mount idea though..

I'm just glad to find out that my bumper isn't the only one with the durn hole. Now, has anyone had any luck finding a black plastic plug that fits?

Later,
Johnny

Check Lowe's or Home Deport. In the fasteners section you can find automotive fasteners, which include "christmas tree" pins, and other plastic fasteners that hold themselves in. Depending on the size of that hole you should should be able to find something that will work.

Its an FCA thing....lol
Remember to lube up the bolts connecting the end caps otherwise if exposed they will rust up and be a real bitch to remove down the road. Have them on my 10A Rubicon and after the first winter they were fused on and the dealer had to cut half of them off to remove the caps.
When ever I wash my rubi I follow that with fluid film as a dressing to all metal(steel bumpers) and plastic......works great and keeps the water beading up and off and also gives them a nice matt black sheen. Once a month spray the undercarriage and wipe down. Takes about a half hour but it's so worth it!

What is the hole for?

Thanks so much for that question. It's been years but it brought up so many lovely memories of my honeymoon.

I've been wondering the same things since I took my end caps off! Glad it's not just me

My vote is for cb antenna. A winch and communication seem to be the requirements of a lot of trails, so it makes sense that the factory steel bumper would be ready for both.
