Picked this one up passing a snowplow that was losing gravel from the truckbed like crazy on a two lane road in Nevada. Sad part is that I knew it was probably going to happen, but there was really no choice other than go around him.

Well,, At 5,500 mi. Make room for another one in the club. I was driving today in Ft. Worth in the rain and needed the defroster to remove the fog on the inside and a 4" crack appeared right before my eyes. I thought it was the defroster that caused it but after closer inspection found a small chip 1/2" up from the bottom.

We don't necessarily have any influence over what type of windshield is put into vehicles but we can get this documented. Are you still at the dealer? Send me a direct message with your VIN, contact information, and where everything stands.

Hey Terry09,

If you don't think anything struck the windshield and you want to have this reviewed for warranty coverage, we'd recommend visiting your dealer to have them take a look, and you can also request that photos are taken for internal review. This is the best way to determine if this might be covered. If you have questions, just DM us!

It would not surprise me if insurance co. quit insuring jeep JL's for Windshield glass replacement or increase the deductible to a crazy amount. My installer told me that when the aftermarket JL windshields show up you can bet that's what they will approve for replacement. We can only hope its thicker and more resistant to damage. I could do like my buddy did on his old ramcharger , just use a sheet of plexiglass and no windshield wipers only rain-x so it didn't scratch it.

What's the status of FCA complaints about this glass? Is there a thread or case or update or anything?

I forgot to budget for an additional 5K for glass - lol

I joined the club on Sunday. I was driving about 40mph on the highway leaving Breck with an SUV about 10 car lengths in front of me. i get a small chip about an inch from the top left edge. An hour later it was about 2" long. The next morning it ran to directly in my field of vision. My hope of getting it filled are gone. As I was coming out the tunnel driving up to Breck on Wed, I heard what sounded like a knuckle crack. The crack ran from in front of my face straight across the middle to about 5" from the right-side frame.

Is there a clear film to prevent chips?

Christmas day, a 2.5 hour interstate drive, and at least 4 rocks hit the glass. I now have a 8" crack. My JLUR is 15 months old with 11K miles, I am surprised it lasted so long. The only good news is my AZ insurance has the $0 cost replacement.

Putting in my fourth windshield tomorrow. Went with factory glass for the previous two replacements, trying aftermarket this time. This is all within the last 2000 miles of driving. Sigh.

The factory Mopar glass has got to be the most brittle glass I've owned on any vehicle. In each previous instance, the offending projectile was a tiny pebble at best. One was somehow self-inflicted at around 35mph. Tire was kicking up gravel, a tiny piece bounced off a rock wall and managed to get some hang time right in my windshield's path of travel. Not a single other car around for miles.

Which aftermarket are you going with? I saw a vid from LiteBrite that showed them having success with an aftermarket.
