For the first time since purchase I have reason to look at the design under either cowl for purposes of possibly fabricating hardware that might attach below it, even if it involves drilling holes that are invisible with the cowl reattached after such an installation.

As anyone might suggest, I took the smaller torx bit and factory supplied wrench to the two driver's side cowl bolts and unscrewed them without issue.

Next, looking for a point of leverage to remove the cowl, I opened the driver's side [front] door and easily was able to create distance between the place where the bolts that attached the cowl to the rig's body are normally situated, from this side point of leverage that was exposed with the door open.

From this point would someone guide me with how I angle the cowl out? For example, does it at this point involve lifting from the lip below the bolts while pulling away from the rig?

I put the bolts and cowl back on until perhaps someone points me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for technique that doesn't find me cracking the piece. "Cowl removal" on forum search left me little guidance.

I watched this clip on mounting a-pillar lights to get an idea of how to take off the cowl. I'm putting on a different set up but wanted to see just how that part comes off.

Thanks for trying Jeff and thanks for succeeding Ron. The video revealed to me that in my ignorance, removing only 2 of the 5 necessary bolts will "not a cowl free."

I only removed the two bolts on the side, not the two on top and the windshield hinge bolt: for a total of five.

I'm glad I didn't force anything. : - )

You don't need to take off the hinge bolt, at least I don't think so. They did that to attach that particular light mount.
