Honestly, when (not if) my time comes, I might just go buy a new set of doors and whatever else I see it on.

At those prices I would sand it, prime it, and then pay to have a wrap.

Do I take it to a dealer first or contact jeep cares first? Asking because the only dealer with a body shop is about an hour away

You will have to take it to a dealer first.

You have to take it to a dealer that deals with corrosion warranties. There are multiple dealers in my area but only one manages corrosion claims. I had to drive 2.5 hours to that particular dealer. They walked around and labeled the spots with corrosion, took photos and then submitted that to Stellantis. Within hours I found out Stellantis would pay 70% of the cost to have all of the parts with issues replaced and painted. Super quick and easy to file the claim. I am one year over my warranty. I have a 2018 and I am the first and only owner.

I recently went through this process and received the same deal. However, it is not worth it to me because the repairs cost out of pocket is 3800 after tax. The total bill was around 11500 before tax

Any clue if replacing hinges now will result in slowing the corrosion process or is it an ongoing process once it begins?

Interesting take. What is your plan for the Jeep and what year do you have? My goal is to keep this Jeep forever and the corrosion was already pretty bad. Paint started flaking off. Corrosion is literally on every single hinge to include the hood, tailgate and windshield frame. I’m having all 4 doors, tailgate and windshield frame replaced plus every hinge on the vehicle. Well worth the expense if it stops the corrosion. I know that corrosion naturally happens but not this quickly. If I keep letting it go it will start to interfere with the functioning of the hinges.

It may have already begun on yours but is not yet visible. It typically starts underneath the hinges and then starts spreading around the edges of the hinges and out from there. I also have it on the surrounding edges of my doors, and a few spots on the hood that aren’t near any hinges

I was planning on keeping it forever. I was going to buy another vehicle in the next year or so, and it was going to become a secondary vehicle. I’m not sure what I will do at this point. I don’t believe putting close to 4k into a vehicle that blue books for 13k is wise. Even if it was, it’s not in the budget at this point. Frustrating to say at the least.

anybody know if replacing these will slow the process once it has begun?
Replacing the hinges alone won’t be super helpful because the door panel underneath the hinge is bare metal. The recommended fix, in addition to replacing the hinges and panels is to paint all bare metal. Now when you buy hinges from Mopar they come with a zinc shim as well. The shim is supposed to slow the process but one of my original bodyside hinges had that shim on it from the factory. I have a 2018 and just last month pulled the hinges off to put new ones on due to corrosion. Under the bodyside hinge was a zinc shim and the hinge was placed prior to painting at the factory. Like there was zero primer or anything. Just literal bare metal under the hinges. This bodyside hinge had corrosion and paint bubbling which must have started pretty early on.

Yeah that totally makes sense given your situation. People were asking me why I don’t just sell it or trade it in. I’m like no one will buy this privately with all the obvious corrosion šŸ˜‚. It’s still worth a lot because I only have 59K miles on it. If I traded it into a dealership and bought another one, the car payment would be astronomical at todays rates and I really enjoy not having a car payment.
