Coolant temp overheat

From reading this forum I believe most are under filled from the factory. I’ve added about half a gallon to my 2019 and only checked mine after reading about the issues here. No leaks or ever any overheating for me. My coolant level hasn’t gone down since I topped it off in May.

OK so I talked to garage guy working on it. Said no leak. Is thinking maybe engine is burning it off which would mean a blown head which he does not have enough "info" for yet. He said if it comes to that it's on my dollar for diagnosis before it goes to warrenty company and he said it could not even be that and then it would be on me cause they found nothing.

I couldnt' get anything out of him on how they figure it out without ripping it all apart. can't they tell if it a blown head.

I don't understand any of this. I need some direction cause it's all starting to sound like its on me and me alone.

I'm so confused.

Unfortunately most extended warranties are this way. They won't pay anything until the shop jumps through hoops tearing it apart and it's a bunch of back and forth. Most shops don't want the hassle and don't get paid for the extra work which is why they are asking you to pay.

Guys quick question. Being there are 2 tanks of coolant. One is for the engine and one is for the turbo? Which is which or am I wrong? Or are they tied together?

Also the coolant tank on side side up front what is that one for. Just. Curious so I know. lol

They are independent closed systems. The black coolant tank and the clear coolant tank are not connected.

  • Main engine coolant reservoir: This is typically the larger, often opaque black tank mounted near the firewall (behind the engine, above the brake booster). It holds coolant for the high-temperature circuit, which circulates through the engine block, cylinder heads, EGR system, heater core, and main radiator. This circuit uses an engine-driven water pump and thermostat to maintain operating temperatures around 195–220°F (91–104°C). Capacity is approximately 9.9 quarts (9.4 liters) total for the engine circuit, using Mopar OAT (Organic Acid Technology) 50/50 premix coolant (MS.90032 compliant, often purple or pink in appearance).
  • Intercooler coolant reservoir: This is the smaller, usually translucent white or clear tank located on the passenger side fender well (near the battery). It manages the low-temperature circuit dedicated to the liquid-to-air intercooler integrated into the intake manifold. The intercooler cools the compressed, heated intake air from the turbocharger before it enters the combustion chambers, improving efficiency and reducing detonation risk. This circuit operates cooler (around 140–160°F or 60–71°C) via an electric pump, separate thermostat, and dedicated low-temp radiator. Capacity is about 3.2 quarts (3.0 liters) without eTorque or 3.5 quarts (3.3 liters) with it, using the same Mopar OAT coolant.

Thanks guys.

So they drove it for 30 miles today. Then leak tested it again. Nothing.

They said it held coolant level sinc yesterday also.

They want me to take it and drive it 500 miles to monitor the level and go from there.

They didn’t do anything to see if a head was involved. Haven’t even got an answer if they checked oil or if they would do a leak down test to see if radiator bubbles or anything like that.

So I’ll take it back. Drive it and monitor level in AM after sitting all night each day for 5 days to make sure it’s stabilized well and full. Go from there.

So I just looked down below the black tank and I see pink liquid on some metal parts. I can’t get a clear pic to save my life. It goes in the AM. It’s 20 min drive. I filled it with the rest of the bottle they gave me. It’s showing full right now but ther is deff some spots down there. It’s really hard for me to get my hands down in there to feel around. I’ll show there where I saw liquid. Yah nothing on floor. I have cardboard under there now in case tonight.
What is their explanation of the pink liquid you see under the tank?

dripping from filling it. so missing the opening when the guy from the other dealership filled it and me when I topped it off. could it be maybe. . . they said they pressure/leak tested it multiple times cold/hot/after driving it 30 miles/ overnight. . . it's coming back to me today. now I will watch it over next 500 miles. i'm very worried about a head gasket now. he did say my oil was clean, but that is the only thing they did regarding possible head gasket as of now. said other testing for it was not "warented" yet cause there was also no misfires on the computer.

Use the bubbles on the cap also, much easier to see that a bubble is no longer filled

First pic is level yesterday when I picked it and got home after it was cool enough to open but still warm.

Second pic is cold in garage this morning. Cold engine.

They will be different right cause one was warm one was cold?

Should I add some to bring it back up? It’s down but minimal. So am I stabilized or did I loose some already driving all day yesterday. I drive for my job so I drove almost 60 miles yesterday.

Looks good to me. You can add a small amount, but I’d just keep an eye on it. The lever is supposed to be exactly half way between the lines.

Ok good that level is ok but will it fluctuate between warm and cold? Higher lower? Is the difference between warm engine and cold engine in each pic normal?

It has to be apples to apples. Always check in the morning when cold for comparison of any leak loss, otherwise you’ll drive yourself bonkers trying to make sense of the fluctuations.
