Okay so this could be not diesel specific but its kinda terrifying. If im hard accelerating, say 75% or more foot in it. Often i get a huge almost stall, like bucks forward no throttle at all, for maybe 1 or 2 seconds.

Its happened twice now, 40mph floor it.. like a violent hiccup and then goes. The complete cut of any throttle response is jarring cause my foot is already in it.

Anyone? Fuel problem? Transmission problem?

Had a throttle light come on throwing the Jeep into complete limp mode, 2xs so far. Dealership both times could not find the cause. Yours sounds like a different Beast. Sounds like a restriction when Fuel and air demand are high. I would start by replacing the fuel filter, and checking your airbox and air filter. Living outside city limits I used to get critters nesting in my airbox, overnight.

Could it be that wire harness on the side of the engine that was causing derate issues?

Not sure. I checked air filter, and cleaned it. Will replace fuel filter soon, but im only at 21k miles. Its a fairly recent problem, and only when hard in the gas pedal.

Better description like your screaming top of your lungs and someone puts their hand over your mouth for 1 second and takes it right back off...
floor gas---weeeeeee---ah!---weeeeeee! that was weird.

Search YouTube for the diesel wire harness issue. That would be my first thing I’d check.

This morning it did it twice, not even under too much throttle, maybe 60%.... Its jarring when your going to pass someone and the power completely falls out from under it....

Sounds like a faulty throttle position sensor.
Im thinking so too, tryin to research the "Tone wheel" issue as well. I dont have a check engine light and I hate just chasing a problem by throwing money at it, parts, etc. Is there a way to check the TPS without a CEL?

Can you recreate the issue when the Jeep is just sitting in the driveway by revving the engine?

i'll try that, but kinda hard to simulate a freeway passing roll... guess i could just lay into it for a few seconds hard and see if i can get it to cutout

Nope, can't recreate the issue in neutral. Tryed at different rpms, no cutout.

My dealer said "he's seen several of these fail and had to replace them" when I went in this last visit, with my limp mode throttle scenario.
Anyway to check this? It rattles me at 65mph when I go to pass someone and the jeep bucks and hiccups.... If I let off it comes right back, but Its happened probably 10 times now, almost always when I'm going to pass or put my foot in it aggressively.

This may seem like a long shot, and it may be, but I’d check to make sure all of your fuses are secure and both batteries are in good shape. We have seen every manner of sporadic system failure attributable to one of these two things. For me, it’s the scariest feature of new jeeps.

Same advice as above. Apparently, the failure you are experiencing is a sporadic one that isn’t producing a code. With the exception of the performance/racing folks, the days of smart, vehicle-savvy mechanics are mostly behind us. Dealerships employ ā€œtechniciansā€ who plug into your jeep to read codes and follow dictated steps. Iff there are no codes, and the failure can’t be reproduced on a drive around the block, youā€˜re S-O-L..

A year or two ago one of the forum members was exiting the highway at night when his jeep shut off completely and went black — no lights, no power anything, including power steering and brakes. It was all he could do to get it stopped. I can’t remember how that resolved — but this kind of crap is downright dangerous, and it often produces nothing but a shoulder shrug from the dealers.

I love the new brakes, power, airbags, and transmissions in the newer Jeeps but this kind of stuff never happened in my CJs or TJs, and when I had problems with them they could be fixed.
