I'm looking at ordering one of these for 2024. I wheel my jeeps, and I'm trying to decide if the 392 cost is worth it. Am I missing anything significant here?

Cool factor 10 to 6

Also, the 392 gets the ZF transmission (world class) with paddle shifters. In 2023, the regular Rubicons got the in-house Stellantis 850RE.....not sure about 2024.

How concerned do I really need to be about the 392 transfer case? Been hearing a lot about that lately.

Good luck seeing 22mpg out of the 2.0t. Even with stock 33s we never saw over 18. 37's or 38's was more like 15 around town and 13-14mpg on road trips at 80mph+. The only people seeing 22mpg are cruising around at 55mph and never getting into full boost on acceleration.

Nobody I know has issues with the transfer case....but like all Jeeps, extended warranty is recommended.

Yeah, I hear ya. I just sold my 2021 Rubicon with the 2.0 (the one in my profile pic) in preparation for the 2024 order, and I think I probably had a true average of around 15 or so over 25k miles. Of course, I had 37s and a lead foot… ?

i took those from the “official” Jeep rating just to try to get an apples-to-apples comparison. ??‍♂

I’m biased of course, but if it’s something you’re seriously considering I’d say 392 all the way. You’ll never stop smiling with it. There has been some dialogue on the transfer case with a couple random failures, but I don’t think anything excessive. Make sure the TC is properly filled after you taker delivery as the factory is notorious for under filling them with fluid. There’s also been some chatter about making sure you take them out of 4-Auto and into 4-PT when off pavement to avoid unnecessary clutch activity and wear, especially when towing off pavement.

My answer is simple: if you have the coin and appreciate what the engineers have done to make the JL 392, get one.

Daily drive mine, mpg 11-12, I could care less.

Ordered the 2024 Rubicon X a month ago. The only thing that stopped me from getting the 392 was the fuel range - pretty important when I mainly overland. If I ordered again today I think I'd stick the 10 gallon tank on the tire carrier and make the 392 work. Even with this prehistoric 2 valve push-rod engine, it's hard not to enjoy it. More like $22,000 difference out of the door.

It sounds like, if I'm correct (and aside from the HP and Torque, of course), there is not a significant offroad capability difference between the 392 and the Rubicon X. Both get the new rear axle. Both get a slight lift and 35" tires. Pretty close to the same Jeep except for the engine. That's my understanding, at least.

No, the whole drive train is improved…..engine, transmission, and rear end.

While the off-road characteristics are improved somewhat, it is GETTING to the off-road that is greatly improved.

I’ve had mine for just over a week, and while the 392 is not fast compared to my other cars, it offers a wonderful sense of theater to every drive, very entertaining……which I didn’t get from driving the other Jeeps in the lineup. They are all competent, but the 392 just spoke to me, just like great exotic cars do.
