We are passing through Colorado and will find ourselves in Leadville. Just curious, at those high elevations are the 4x4 passes open? Specifically Tincup Pass or Mosquito Pass?

is there another pass that you would recommend?

thx I’m advance.

I have not been out that way in the winter so can't say for sure. Westin Pass (just south of Mosquito) is a pretty ride and easy. Couple of offshoot trails that will flex you out/off camber, but nothnig too crazy.

Tincup does not appear to be open fully based on Trails Offroad reviews. They also state that Mosquito is seasonal closure still. Not surprising as it is higher elevation than Tincup. Same with Westin. If going along I'd not attempt anything besides Westin since it is a pretty easy trail.

Was in the mountains 2 weeks ago, lots of snow still then. I did tincup pass last year, nothing challenging on it, very pretty. I’d be surprised if it’s open yet.

In general this is way too early for anything high altitude to be open, but that website looks like a good resource.
