Hey all, for the last six months I've had a clunking sound on the front end during any kind of deceleration or letting my foot off the gas. It started off pretty quiet but now it has gotten loud enough for it to be a concern. It is most noticeable when at low speeds but I can hear it at highway speeds as well.

My mechanic has looked over the car multiple times but to no avail. We've replaced the rear drive shaft and put in new wheel bearings in the back but I think that those are unrelated to the noise in the front.

Any ideas on what it could be or what I should check to try and fix? I'll try to upload a video capturing the sound later.

I have the stock control arms. I'm pretty sure that was one of the first things my mechanic checked. I'm not too sure what to look for but I could take another look.

Completely unrelated question, but does your mechanic have pictures of a new boat on his walls?

I would park on a level surface, pull the hand brake and push the jeep every way I can until I can replicate the sound,

if you can, then creep under and have someone else push the jeep the same way so you can isolate where the sound is coming from, you should be able to at least isolate it to a corner, but if it’s as loud as you say, you should be able to figure out where it’s coming from,

if you can’t, try retorquing bolts (start with the LCAs) sometimes even a little under torqued bolts can clunk

Im no mechanic thou, just speaking from past experience

Here is a video of the noise. You might have to put your volume up to hear cause of the cabin noise.

Hi, I am having the exact same noise on my 2020 JLU Sahara. Did you find the culprit? It could help me a lot…

Not being a mechanic, I would expect a break caliper issue - if you are applying the brakes when you hear the sound.

That’s the interesting bit. It comes when letting the foot off the gas (and its frequency gets lower as the speed reduces) but if I apply brakes firmly it goes away

Hi, my mechanic thinks it’s something to do with the front axle disconnect. I haven’t explored that option yet but that’s about my best guess.

I’m not sure about that. In the coming weeks I’ll replace both front wheel hubs and service the brakes and see if it improves…

If you manage to fix it please let me know what it was 🙂
