I have run into the same issue with the rubber pad you have mentioned. I think it is from me sliding my phone out on that side as I remove it. It places a lot of sliding pressure on that pad...2X of more times per day. Let me/us know how your fix works. I was pondering something similar. THX!
I did the glue thing a few days ago and it's working so far. I used Gorilla Glue gel.

do you have a picture with your phone on the mount?
That would be a challenge. :facepalm:
Mount on that location is quite flexible, it can be faced to driver or passenger.

Define "cleanest". Some of these solutions look like the frame from a 1950s Birdcage Maserati. :)
I guess I think of cleanest as simplest and barely noticable.

I just stumbled on this post. Reminded me of the time I saw one of these in Steele Therkelson's shop in Carson CA, circa 1975.
