I have a Honda 2kw generator, with 12v accessory cables. I also have a good battery charger.

And I have an ARB fridge on the way.

I like to camp in remote places, often in one spot for several days, so I’m going to need to charge my Jeep battery every couple days, I’m guessing.

So should I charge with the generator directly, or run it through the AC charger? I’m interested in speed of charge, but don’t want to overcook anything. The generator will not automatically stop charging when battery is fully charged, I’m pretty sure.

I’m not very electrically astute, btw.

Is there any reason you couldn’t just fire up the Jeep for a few minutes each day to recharge your batteries?

Would idling the Jeep for a few minutes a day keep the battery charged?

If so, I’m in, but I’m skeptical.

Perhaps a few minutes might be understated, but I would think that a dual battery setup would be sufficient. Run the Jeep for a bit each day to charge the batteries and leave the generator for glamping trips. The dual battery setup should save a bit of space as well.

Either way, test run your setup in your driveway before you go on your multi-night trip.
