Changing my order

Jeeps are not built in VIN order. Or any other logical order that anyone can predict.
Why should manufactures have VIN numbers o keep track of their made and sold vehicles if they aren't going to of them in order?

I have been checking VINs since my order 1-11-18, on many dealer sites and they are coming in in order.

VINs are assigned before a Jeep is scheduled to build. The Jeeps are scheduled based on priority and availability of parts and are actually built based on real-time data on inventory and process control.

My Jeep has a VIN. It is a Sting-Gray with a premium soft top. It is in D status and is not being built any time soon.

Maybe 3 days later a dealer enters an order for a firecracker red JLU with a black hard top.

2 days after that another customer does a Sold Order for a similar red Jeep.

They all have VINs in chronological order.

Probably, the customer's red Jeep will be built first and my Sting-Gray will be built last.

They are not built in VIN order.

I may have an answer on this soon. I tried changing myorder on day 2. I did not realize AUX buttons were not standard, so I asked to add the tow package 1 day after VIN was assigned.

I have gotten many "From what we know, it was added" answers from the dealer. I can also attest that it isn't on my build sheet from the build sheet tracker. It also does not show up on the dealer's website. My vehicle with my VIN shows there, w/o the package.

My salesman still contends it was added. No window sticker is yet available.

As my estimated delivery date approaches, I am torn between putting faith in the dealership who say it was added and the tracking systems that have let folks down day after day and have proven to be incorrect quite often.

I am betting that the "Can't change after VIN" statement is probably correct and have already resigned myself to this thought as well as started making contingency plans to add AUX buttons later.

Regardless, sometime between 3/30 and 4/3 (provided the tracking info is correct), I can weigh in on this question with corroborative evidence. I will let you know what I find.

Well it sounds like no one has ever had luck changing an order after they received a VIN.
I changed my order after receiving my VIN.

Great happy you could do that. I see you ordered very early before production started. I think it changed once they had the Jeeps coming off the line.

The aux switches are standard equip. on 2018 Wrangler JL.

3. Auxiliary Switches

One of the things that has defined Jeep Wrangler enthusiasts for more than three decades is the need to add all kinds of aftermarket items on the vehicle – many of which require power and need to be toggled on and off with switches. Products like auxiliary lighting, light bars, winches and lockers (non Rubicon). For 2018, FCA has added a four switch auxiliary panel complete with wiring that you can easily hook up to your accessories and then program via the Uconnect Infotainment System.
Hoping someone who has taken delivery without the tow package can confirm this. If it is standard, seems there wouldn’t be a reason for Mopar to have it as an accessory.

I'd like to switch interior colors and possibly tops on my JL order. The salesman says he isn't sure he can do it. Can I pull this off?
My understanding is that the FCA order system locks the ability for dealerships to make changes to a booked order once your vehicle reaches D status and a VIN is assigned. The new car manager at my dealership showed me my D status 2dr Rubicon order on screen when I asked to make changes and all of the data entry fields were grayed out. He explained this was why he could not make my requested change.

But, here’s the good news. I PM’d Jeep Cares on this forum asking if there is any way FCA could make a change to a booked order, and the answer is yes. The new car manager can contact his FCA rep who has the authority to modify the order as long as you are not in D1 status. This was news to my manager, but he agreed to try it and it worked.

I’ve now been back twice with changes as I’ve sat at D for the past 75 days. The first was six weeks ago to change the color from Billet Silver to Bright White and add leather seats and LED lights. Then, three weeks ago, I added proximity keyless entry. In both cases, I received an updated Priced Order Confirmation printout two days later that shows my new configuration and that my order date, VON and VIN remains unchanged.

To me, it’s obvious that the 2dr production delays are part of an FCA conspiracy to keep me adding to my order and that they are holding me at D status until I have booked every possible option.

I think the trk_ID at the end of your link will cause their response to go to you. There's nowhere to put my email address. I tried removing that ID from the link which requires me to enter a tracking ID. Is there another way to email them?

BTW my VIN ends in 15xxxx.
I contacted Chrysler here is correct info to ask your questions.

Can I use my VIN to find out if I'm in D1 status?
Email your dealer and ask him to send you a current pdf of your Priced Order Confirmation. Your build status will be on that sheet.

@scishfottman

Auxillary switch panel, located just below window controls and HDMI input panel, is absolutely not standard on any level of JL. The switches are included with the Trailer Tow/HD Electrical group. Go to the configurator, pull up any interior view and you will see the panel is missing unless you add the aforementioned group.
