I love some of the options posted here, unfortunately the iPhone X is limited if you plan to use wireless charging. I used to use a magnetic based charger, but the metal piece that sits in the case prevents wireless charging. It's not a big deal to plug in vs wireless, but just a heads up for anyone looking for a solution that doesn't prevent wireless charging.

Another iPhone X user here. I just use the slot made for the keyfob in the middle of the cup holders. Since I hate seeing wires, I drilled a hole in the side middle of the cup holder. You can’t do it in the middle bottom because there’s a sensor there, probably the one that makes sure the key is in the cabin before you can start the engine. Then I drilled a hole in the center cubby and ran the charging cable through the holes and plugged into the USB in the cubby.

Yes! That is where I have been putting my phone. I also hate cables and have been trying to figure out a way to hide it a bit more. Wish there were 2 USB ports in the center console.

I'm pretty sure an aftermarket USB port could be placed into the console. A little work but doable.

I'm sure there is, but it might get a little tricky making it do more than just charge the phone. The dash USB and the console USB both function as CarPlay ports, which I use. It's not a huge deal when it's just me, but when my wife and I both take the Jeep, we both usually plug in. Just cleaner having them come out of the console than the dash. that said, one that simply charged in the console might be enough.

Given the Wrangler's rugged styling, imho, the only solution is a full size suction cup-base RAM mount with X-grip - none of those itsy bitsy magnetic mounts! On top of general ability to hold about 3,000 lbs and withstand a nuclear blast, you get the additional benefit of hiding in its shadow on a sunny day or when the guy on the oncoming lane forgets to switch to low beams.:bandit:

On a more serious note - i do use RAM/X-grip mount, but mostly because: a) I don't like having mount receiver on the phone (I don't use it when driving all that often, and i carry the phone all the time); b) I don't mind the wire running on the outside; c) I have RAM mounts on my motorcycle and I trust the brand - I tried some cheapo (quality-wise) mounts with not-so-great-results.

PS: forgot another benefit (duh) - because X-grip does not require a receiver on the unit, I can easily pull out my old Garmin GPS unit and throw it into there instead of the phone, or I can throw my wife's phone there. Yes, I don't care for built-in GPS systems - I prefer to have a newer, cheaper standalone GPS unit (advantage over the vehicle infotainment GPS) that has maps installed on it (advantage over Google Maps) as a backup.

Well, a couple of years back I would agree with you in regard to the stand alone GPS unit but now a days no..

Now a days, you can easily download maps for your region for use with Google, Waze, etc. before you hit the road. Read here: https://support.google.com/maps/answer/6291838?co=GENIE.Platform=Android&hl=en

For many reasons to include Bang for the buck, resale value, etc., I went with the.....factory GPS... Electronic Infotainment Group.

With the Infotainment offering you can even feed Google Maps and Waze into it/use using say "Android Auto".

Anyway, NOW A DAYS, regardless of whether you have cell phone coverage in the area you are traveling in or not, you can always use/ count on Google Maps and or Waze. No need to use an old Garmin, etc. with outdated maps.

Were you able to get a drill in there or did you have to remove the center console? Like your idea and will have two phones to deal with. I'm waiting on my order so your tips are great.

I don't do 21st century (I'm actually responding to this thread using punch cards) ;-)

But, yes, I'm actually looking forward checking out the latest tech - I'm going from a 2005 car with very basic package. I went through the search for gps solution for my motorcycle - tried downloading maps back in the early days of Google Maps allowing it and it didn't work well, so I just have my old Garmin in the glove compartment. Btw, it does have lifetime map updates, so the maps are def updated, but that's beside the point.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about ability to use google maps via Android Audio (because it would work for 70% of my driving . And not arguing that my way is better - it just works for me. I'm also not as worried about the resale value - I'll probably keep this thing for a while - if I were, I wouldn't be getting a manual:brokenhearted:

I have a Makita subcompact drill which just barely fits with the drill bit in the cubby (best drill I have owned IMHO).

It looks great! How did you manage to run the cable without taking the console apart?

Once you get the cup holder console out, you can see the where the middle console is and there’s room to grab the cord. If that makes any sense.
