2023 JLURD w/ Banks Derringer.
Have been been getting code P242C.
Replaced Bank 1 Sensor 3 w/ PN 68408957AB <-- this is sensor 4
Cleared the code and it has returned a day later.

Anyone else dealt with this?
*update - pic below is egt sensor 4

With or without engine light warning on the dash? What other warning nights if any on the dash?

CEL = Check Engine Light, which was/is present on the dash. I cleared the code, CEL went away, and then returned. After clearing the code I could still recall it as a previous code.

No other codes or warnings on dash.

Fairly typical of my experiences! Even after resetting/disconnecting the battery the CEL remains, eventually disappears. I think it's just a strong default these jails have in hopes that one will make a service appointment. The service advisor will do an "official reset" and let you know he didn't find anything. In the meantime you're out the trouble and hassle of trying to do the right thing or so we're led to believe so and promptly taking it in for service and fear of something catastrophic. I now take it with a grain of salt.

I have updated OP with correct info to save anyone else from replacing wrong sensor.

  • 1/1 is located on the outlet of the turbocharger — PN 68490115AA
  • 1/2 is located on the inlet of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC)/Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) — PN 68492934AA
  • 1/3 is located between the DOC and the DPF — PN 68372817AB
  • 1/4 is located on the inlet of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). — PN 68408957AB

Thanks for this -- I have a Banks DataMonster (but no Derringer) and have been trying half-heartedly to nail down exactly where each of the EGT sensors actually is.

Which document is this from? -- the schematic doesn't exactly match the shape of the exhaust -- particularly the muffler. Perhaps a generic schematic?

And I don't suppose you have any insight into why there are separate turbo outlet and DPF inlet sensors since there don't appear to be any components between them? IIRC these temps do track very closely so not sure why there are two separate sensors here.

I can’t answer as to why sensors 1 and 2 are where they are.

The image came from this.

All 4 sensors are located before #5 on the image above.

Thanks. Says "Jeep Gladiator" on all the docs so that might account for it -- different muffler configuration but likely the same components in the same order.

***Update***

Have replaced #3 egt twice now(major PITA) & it continues to throw the CEL. The last egt that I replaced was tested & ohmed out good. This leads me to believe there is either a wiring issue or pcm issue.

Has anyone else experienced this or had a pcm go bad?

****Update 2****

Took the Jeep to a different dealership. Prior to them even looking at it, the service manager said it sounds like a pin tension issue in the connector. They were able to confirm & adjust the tension.
