I spend a lot of time on logging roads in the PNW scouting potential hunting areas pre-season and then continually traveling those same roads August through December during hunting season. My sole use of my CB is to call out mile markers and to communicate directly with logging trucks in order to let them know where I'm at and by listening to them calling out their mile markers I have plenty of time to get out of their way. The loggers have been very good to work with. At least one major timber company here requires recreational permit holders to have CBs as a condition of being on their land. For my particular Jeep travels in logging areas a CB is a vital piece of safety equipment. If you're a hunter, hiker, fisherman etc. in areas with active logging I suggest a CB is very much worth considering. Sudden encounters between Jeeps and log trucks on sometimes narrow, steep, windy gravel roads is something to be avoided.

Bring Back CB “Roundups” I even went to one, ~ 40 years ago. Fit right in with 800 channels and a 1000 watt linear. Talked as far as Australia, skip permitting. When my 82 KW was replaced with a 91 Peterbilt I moved the radio but not the amp. Seldom turned it on, but some locations still used them to contact waiting truckers (IE Costco). My friends CB and Pager (remember them) shop closed a few years later as cell phones killed the old tech. Don’t miss cb’s, mass BS and Stupid!

I remember cbs back in the 90s my dad had one lol I always remember talking to truckers while driving up north

If I bought a cb radio would I want to spend the extra money for a good quality one or just get a cheap one? And I need an antenna which I'm sure is sold seperately

Try to find a radio/cb shop to get a quality radio that will get out without getting stepped on. I have one with a little 40 watt amp built in, frequency slider to fine tune for optimal clarity, precise meter for tuning SWR’s ( necessary for performance and if too high with fry the radio), tune with the antenna clear in an open area and doors closed for accuracy, antenna should be tall enough to be above the roof to use it as a ground plane ( quality- not a cheap one) , trim the antenna stinger or coil wires ( type dependent) a little at a time, if you shorten too much you will need another stinger or antenna. You will find the recommended type of radio only at an independent shop so talk to them and get them to trust you. My 800 channel radio and 1000 watt linear amp were not exactly FCC approved. 😉😊

I travel a lot for work, so naturally I'm on the free way all the time, and was wanting to get a cb radio and mount it on the passenger side under the glove box or up top on the side somewhere by the roll bar or something

Does anyone have a cb radio and which one do you think is a good one? Also I've never had a cb radio so is there anything I should know before getting one?
Took some pics of mine if you’re interested.

A question for those using GMRS, with CB channel 19 is a general calling channel monitored by most users. Back in my CB days of the 70s and 80s, if you're headed down the interstate and there's a traffic jam due to an accident people would be talking about it on channel 19. Does GMRS have a similiar frequency?

But does the average long haul semi trucker have GMRS? I want to hear from the trucker 2-5 miles ahead of me. I still have my CB even though I have FRS for that reason. My $.02

I have one of those sitting around. I had it in m Dodge RAM and took it out when I sold the truck. It worked well and was nice to have on my Pennsylvania to Florida runs. I was going to install it in my F-150 but never got around to it. I also have the midland 75-822, which works off of the cigarette lighter for those few times when I use a CB these days. I believe both of these units are still being sold by Cobra and Midland.

My dad has the midland with the same setup…the radio with all the knobs powered by the cig lighter. He has it in his truck. That’s how we communicate w/eachother when we travel. 🤓
