CB Antenna Recommendations.

I have the Extreme Recon package on my Rubicon with the reinforced tailgate. I run a 3 foot Firestick and want the Jeep to go through a 7 foot door without taking the antenna off. Couldn’t find a bracket so I designed some templates and made my own. Cut that aluminum angle and had a welding shop stick it together for me. Works well and looks good. Invest in an SWR meter and tune your antenna. Also make sure your antenna has a good ground. I ran an individual ground wire off the bracket to the frame to insure a good ground. That will ultimately affect radio performance. If you don’t tune your antenna and the SWR is too high or you don’t have a good ground, you will destroy a CB Radio. Ask me how I know.

for GMRS get a Wouxun KG-1000G+
you can remote mount the head/mic to a bulletpoint or whatever, and have the radio under the passenger seat.

midland MXTA26 for an antenna mounted on the tailgate reinforcement and using a ditch light bracket. (complete with skewered duck)
i'll have to get a better pic later as wife has the jeep right now.

That - is a really nice setup. I'm going to venture to say it may be overkill for many. To OP - this is what the top end of the spectrum looks like, you can easily get away with a Midland 15w setup if you just want to communicate with your group. If it were me and I wanted both, I'd do a GMRS permanent mount and a CB handheld. Unless you're using it all the time I don't see the point in investing in a permanent CB setup.

Personally, I don't use CB. I have a Midland 15w permanent mount and will soon be installing a dual band VHF/UHF 50w.

I already have handheld units for both CB and GMRS. The GMRS handhelds actually work ok. The CB handheld can receive from most vehicles in a group, but it wont even transmit as far as the vehicle right next to me. I have an overhead molle panel, and thought I might as well mount both radios side by side.

What brand and model is that handheld CB? You should be getting a lot more range unless it is a crap toy version.

For my 23 Wrangler Rubi 2 Dr. I am using a Cobra 25 LTD Classic CB Radio with a 2 Ft and 5 Ft Firestik II Tunable Tip Antdnna with a Quick Disconnect. With the 2 Ft antenna I get 1.2:1 on Ch. 1 and 1.3:1 on Ch. 40 for VSWRs and with the 5 Ft antenna I get 1.0:1 across the board for VSWRs. My antenna is attached to a bracket on the rear door hinge.

For my GMRS system in my 23 Rubi, I am using a Motorola XTL5000 Remote unit. I have my GMRS radio connected to a Larsen Glass-Mount Antenna which works very well. My VSWR on 462 Meg freqs is 1.2:1 and on 467 Meg freqs is 1.6:1.

My GMRS radio Control Head and the Remote Transceiver along with the CB Radio are powered through the 40 Amp "Aux 1" circuit.

No cheap Chinese junk POS and other related radio parts and stuff were purchased from any 3rd party reseller that sells cheap junk and does not specialized in the sale of radio electronics.

I have a Terefex I can sell you. , The Terefex has two openings one for antenna and one for whip or flag.

I used it with a No Ground Plane Firestik. I went with a reinforced tailgate that came with its own mount.

Cobra 50 WXST. I think the problem is that its rubber duckie antenna doesn't transmit from inside the vehicle with the windows up. I could do a hard mount external antenna, but if I'm going to all that trouble then I'll do it with the new Cobra 29 LX CB my son bought me for my birthday.

Actually, I had to abandoned the CB mount provided by thd Mopar Heavy Duty Spare Tire Reinforcement Support Brzcket and go back to the after-market bracket because the mount was to thick and there was not enough thread engagement with the antenna lug and cable stud.

I had to get 2 1/2" length bolts because of the spare tire support bracket thickness.

I ordered the Wouxun KG-1000G GMRS radio and the Midland MXTA 26 GMRS antenna with the ditch light mount for the GMRS.

I've already got the Cobra 29 LX CB radio my son gave me. I think I'll need to do a custom antenna mount for the tailgate because none of the ones shown in this thread or in my search look like they are going to work with my CavFab spare tire carrier at the same time I will be using a Rotopax mount I have. It looks like I will be ordering a 3' Firestick tunable CB antenna.

What about antenna cable? Is one type better than another? Do I need a different type for CB than I do for GMRS?
