CarPlay on Bluetooth

Do any of you have CarPlay? I’ve got it on a Pioneer deck and it is pretty dumb. Gave up and just use Bluetooth. The Apple maps still stink, and Apple does not really let any good aps in. Until they put some good apps in there it is pretty worthless.

I have it. It’s reliable, and sound quality for music is better than Bluetooth.

Carplay and Android auto - while navigating - will eat your battery up within an hour at best. Not including using your bluetooth or wifi on the device to transmit the images to the stereo screen.

You'll have to plug it in otherwise you'll have a dead phone anyway.

Making wireless Carplay/Android Auto pointless.

Not necessarily. Lots of cars have wireless charging. My GMC does. Just place phone on the center console and it charges. Wireless CarPlay makes sense.

I do love having the ACP on the new JL, I previously mentioned on this thread i thought it would be nice to be wireless, honestly after using it for a few days, I could care less and I don’t think Id use it wirelessly it is so easy to just plug in, as others have said I need to charge it anyway.

In actuality I prefer the cable, too. It charges faster and music sounds better. Even so, there are potential uses and users for wireless CarPlay, and it already exists on other platforms. So, why not?

On my UConnect (4C NAV 8.4) I am unable to use Apple CarPlay unless the Iphone is wired... can someone confirm that is the only way? Phone and Music/Audio works fine on BT.

I am able to use CarPlay on my other car with bluetooth and just wanted to know if that was an unsupported feature for UConnect.

CarPlay is not available solely via Bluetooth on any vehicle. Wireless CarPlay uses WiFi, and is only available on a very small handful of cars and aftermarket head units. It’s nice - I installed the first wireless CarPlay HU in my F-250, and am very happy with it. I hope to see it everywhere eventually, but I’m not at all surprised it’s not available on the Jeep.

It’s only pointless if the only time you use your car is for 2 hour roadtrips with GPS. I use it all the time for short hops with GPS, and longer drives without GPS and it barely affects my battery life at all.

Also, you’re ignoring wireless chargers - when I do need some juice, my phone charges when I drop my phone in the cup holder or slap it on the magnet mounted on my wife’s dash. Wireless is great!

I hope FCA adds wireless CarPlay to the next version of uconnect in time for me to get it in my future scrambler...

This is patently, demonstrably false. I do this regularly with my qi charger, and even while playing audio and navigating the phone gets a positive charge.

This, along with your other assertion that wireless CarPlay will drain your battery in 1 hour make it clear you have no actual experience with it.

It’s great that you prefer wires, and enjoy them while they last, but there’s no need to make up crap to support your preference.

Wireless QI chargers cannot even get close to cable charging.

This will be efficient eventually. However, the technology simply isn't good enough to support a phone running GPS/music at the same time. It will drain even while sitting on a wireless charger.

I have experience with wireless charging. Do some research.

QI chargers aren't comparable to cables just yet, as I mentioned in my last post.

While I agree that wireless is no where near the capability of the wired option, I think that the graph (which I have seen before) is out of date with regards to the charging speed. It shows iOS 11.2, but what I am thinking is that in the graph they didn't account for a high speed charger (7.5W) vs a standard charger (5W) through wireless.

iOS 11.2 added high speed charging and it does work considerably better than it used to... but is still no where near the speeds that can be obtained if you use a USB-C cable and the 29W (or higher) adapter.

Either way wired works better, though I should add that I regularly put my phone on a wireless dock (high speed) and can watch a movie and still increase in % over time.

All that chart shows is the the phone charges slower on qi than others - it doesn't come close to supporting your BS claim that qi charging can't charge a phone while wireless CarPlay is being used.
