On my UConnect (4C NAV 8.4) I am unable to use Apple CarPlay unless the Iphone is wired... can someone confirm that is the only way? Phone and Music/Audio works fine on BT.

I am able to use CarPlay on my other car with bluetooth and just wanted to know if that was an unsupported feature for UConnect.

I’ve never seen CarPlay via Bluetooth, my understanding is you are always connected, I wish that wasn’t the case but it’s always been the case for every car I’ve seen with it and that is quite a lot of cars.

Not suprised - the first sytem to support wireless carplay was only released in July or Aug, and that was aftermarket. UConnect 4C predates that.

Maybe someday they'll add that feature? Or likley we'll have to wait for UConnect 5.

The wireless Android Auto and Carplay is just releasing - I know Android has it done already. However, it won't work on this stereo - I think Kenwood or Pioneer just released the first wireless stereo a week ago or so.

But here's to hoping there is a usb wireless dongle that'll do the same for all wired stereos in the future.

I like plugging my phone in for charging anyway. Every time I get in the car I am charging it.

True and same here... not a huge deal, it was just different from my other car and wanted to make sure as I was not doing something wrong.

BMW and Mercedes Are the only ones certified for wireless CarPlay. There might be a couple more but I don’t keep up with it anymore but yes no wireless caryplay

BMW has it, Volkswagen is said to be working on it, and Alpine has wireless CarPlay on their iLX-007 receiver.

Entertainingly enough, BMW has announced that starting in 2019, they plan to turn CarPlay into an $80 annual subscription service:

https://www.macrumors.com/2018/01/17/bmw-carplay-subscription-plans/

They currently charge a one time $300 fee (!) to enable it.

Bingo, everyone wants wireless CarPlay but it won’t happen to domestic brands, we get more tech toys va the foreign I feel so it’s a trade off. I’d love to see it but plugging a cable in, next Gen sync 4 and next Gen Uconnect you’ll probably see it (I’m curious if the feature is in the new Uconnect on the ram but will be disabled for now or something).

Do you guys never charge your phone? lmao

Carplay and Android auto - while navigating - will eat your battery up within an hour at best. Not including using your bluetooth or wifi on the device to transmit the images to the stereo screen.

You'll have to plug it in otherwise you'll have a dead phone anyway.

Making wireless Carplay/Android Auto pointless.

Do any of you have CarPlay? I’ve got it on a Pioneer deck and it is pretty dumb. Gave up and just use Bluetooth. The Apple maps still stink, and Apple does not really let any good aps in. Until they put some good apps in there it is pretty worthless.

I have carplay, its simple and does what it needs, the new Beta Versions add some features (Once in awhile I see accidents or roads show very busy etc).
