Hello all, the family and I are going on vacation and we need to make a one-way trip with our 16 ft Old Town Canoe. I have a one One Touch Skytop. I was thinking about picking up generic $100 Amazon gutter roof rack to drag it down the 300 miles we need to take it.

I know the top will not open with these standard low towers. Again it's only a one-way trip and I will not be opening the sky top when the canoe is mounted up there. Are there any other thoughts? Is this bad idea I know there is some buffeting issues at higher speed with some roof racks and the sky top.

As much as I love this top at times I do not think I would order one again too many negatives over a standard hard top.

Thanks

I've strapped two big kayaks up there. Just buy really good straps, tie it down as solidly as possible from all angles, drive slowly, and check it often.

Do a test run before your 300 mile trip, of course.

Double check often. My son almost lost a Kayak at the Outer Banks from the rack on his 4Runner. Watercraft are tough to tie down.

ropes loosen/stretch when tugged on. use ratchet straps and check often. 16’ is long for a canoe i’d think!
