Yep, where "some folks" are primarily those that live or travel in the West / Southwest. It's incredibly common to camp in areas that are under various forms of fire bans.
Yup, where you check the Fire Map as casually as you would check the weather report.

I'm certain that the residents of and visitors to those parts of our nation will be cognizant of their own requirements when reading the opening post of this thread. No further hang-wringing is required.

Don’t laugh but Dumont Dunes, California had fire restrictions. You are literally surrounded with sand and absolutely no vegetation but since Inyo County had a ban in place, Dumont was included. I giggled the whole time at the reality of absurdity but hey, it eliminates someone from saying, “But we were allowed a fire just 60 miles South”…..

Just like you, I used to think a camp without a fire was akin to fishing without beer; biscuits without butter and a dog without a collar; Unthinkable.

Now?

Even though I love the taste of charcoal grilled everything, I am totally content using my propane grill and griddle. One wrong ember even with the best of fire watch can ruin too many lives.

Agreed, although convenient, its pretty wasteful when refillable versions of the small tanks are available, and you can refill at home with a $60 kit.
I'm on board: I have three 1 pounder refillables and an 11 pounder.

I've grown to despise the single-use green bottles - so much wasted metal. However, I'm not convinced the average consumer of today is up to the task of home propane refilling.
