Looking to do some long road trips with my dog (Lab mutt) in a JLU and want to keep the rear seats up. Can anyone recommend a good dog seat cover and rear seat filler to expand the area he can lay on?

I have an 80lb husky, and this super cheap thing is actually well made and what I use when the seats are in normal position.

I usually have them folded down though, and have this big Smittybuilt liner for the whole cargo area that's awesome.

You can cut a piece of plywood the width of the gap between the rear seat bottom and the front seats, make some legs for it and put a few inch thick foam pad on it. If your wife sews, have her make a cover for the foam. If not, wrap it in a old quilt or blanket. Try to make it all come out level.

I know you wanted a rear seat cover, but this is still good for dogs and maybe others who get to this will care about a cargo area option. I would think about putting the dog in the cargo area and your cargo in the rear seat area too possibly.

That's similar to what I did in my F-150. Built a small 2x4 frame with a piece of 3/4" particle board, some 3M adhesive, and some indoor/outdoor carpet and they have a nice solid platform and it makes for loading boxes in the back seat much easier too.

I have this one and it works well and has a hard, rigid bottom floor that slides in and out. That hard bottom "extends" the seat bottom a bit due to its width, which is more area for a dog. I think it is a bit too wide for the Jeep (may be best in a larger SUV) and so there is extra material off the front edge of the rear seat, and you can fill that area with one or more rolled blankets if you like. We have a 15lb dog, and we like this for the zipper sides so when we open the rear doors he does not immediately "slide out" by sliding his front paws off the side edge of the seat (facing the rear doors).

Don't really have one to recommend, but what I don't necessarily recommend:

This is nice because it has the Jeep logo, but the backing was falling apart within a couple of months. I don't really care for the snaps that hold it on to the head rests, they tend to pull tight and get wedged in the crack. I'd rate it a 6 out of 10 mostly because it does keep the seat fabric clean from dirt and mud.

These door/window guards are nice in theory, but they are always falling off:

Thanks for the suggestion. The only thing that makes this not work is the straps blocking the rear windows. My pup loves to sit with his head out the window. I guess I could not connect them but then I lose door protection
